A promise about designing a wordmark...
Mar. 18th, 2020 08:50 pm...I seem to remember making to one of you on my friendlist today. Or one of your friendlisters.
I need a memory refresher, because I want that Adobe Illustrator practice time!
I remembered: it's for

Communities I'm Running on Dreamwidth
Feb. 27th, 2020 08:54 amThere's two of them right now:
ottawa_gatineau, which is devoted to discussing stuff going on in the Ottawa-Gatineau region of Canada, including its core cities.
viarail_fandom, for talking about passenger rail service across Canada in all its forms, regardless of its name.

This is a multi-purpose posting.
1) To promote myself as a writer, and show that I've done work that draws attention.
2) That I am still seeking to build expertise in Ottawa-Gatineau history.
3) To promote Spacing Media as a news/cultural/historical affairs organization. Matthew Blackett's team are doing good work, with or without my contributions, and I'd like to see that work continue and expand. I hope that if you're not already reading their blogs and hardcopy magazine, that you'll start as a result of this.
More on other stuff later in the day...

MCU: Black Widow Teaser-Trailer # 1
Dec. 3rd, 2019 07:27 pmI saw it.
Two things coming to mind. One is a paraphrase of something Clint said to Natasha in Endgame: Don't give me hope unless you mean it. The other is that I'm bracing for this movie to be an eulogy and no more than that.
It burns me that those of us who care about such things had to wait until after Endgame to get this movie at all. And there are lots of more important things to be angry about, yes. I am angry about many of those other things, too, as you've read from earlier installments of this blog. But this is staying on my personal list of such things, anyway.

I saw the full-page ads where they tried to declare themselves as being the energy industry incarnate. Never mind the renewables, only oil is allowed to matter as being "vital to the Canadian economy" and all that stuff and nonsense?
(I'm sure that "vital..." phrase is an actual quote from somewhere in the oil sector!)
That ad annoys me. Especially in the present context. As does the behind-the-scenes meddling.
I'm not sure that I have much more to say than that on this topic right now.

A good radio series about health care...
May. 23rd, 2019 08:03 pm...is White Coat, Black Art on CBC Radio, hosted by Dr. Brian Goldman. It's been an interesting journey towards both expertise and humility on Dr. Goldman's part for me to listen to over the years. Initially, the tag line was "Medicine, from my side of the gurney", from the POV of an ER doc.
Nowadays?
"Medicine, from ALL sides of the gurney." He's been learning a lot while hosting this show as a doctor and as a human being. Go have a listen, when you have a chance or two.

Fan-Made Promotion: Civil War
Feb. 25th, 2016 08:54 pmAs a student of marketing and fan of MCU-branded product for film, TV and internet broadcast, I believe that the MCU Exchange people who cobbled this together - flaws and all - nailed it as promoters and advertisement creators here. They took eight years' worth of movies and TV shows and Netflix programming and boiled it down to the key points that set the stage for May of this year.
We've seen it done before with The Dark Knight a few years back, and it seems that Marvel wants to try their hand at it now. This is the second instalment from "WHIH World News" with Leslie Bibb reprising her Christine Everhart character from the first two Iron Man instalments, and it looks interesting.
Yeah, I decided to play along with the conceit in the comments sections. Maybe it'll challenge them to run with some stuff a little further, maybe not. But as long as it lasts, it ought to be worth watching.
And maybe we get an actual debate on the post-Sokovia situation acted out?
