I'm still looking for new work after almost two weeks. Four applications filed so far, and it feels like everyone who'd rather be hiring is going to hold off until after our federal elections are done at the end of April.

We'll see.

Checking the job boards this morning. The heat wave currently underway here in Ottawa-Gatineau provides a certain amount of encouragement to stay in the basement, doing such work.

Tomorrow, the job search resumes. I don't know which of a half dozen of the more promising current leads will either prosper or fail.

In the evening, I'll be meeting over Zoom with the Bytown Mac User Group to discuss whatever news came out from the WWDC about Apple's product line over the weekend. That should be interesting.

As of this year's edition, I'm still looking for steadier work, better work, honest or at least honourable work. My most recent contract was fun, good, mentally healthier, better-paying than I'd had before. Too bad it was only two months.

Pleased to see the tentative agreement between Treasury Board of Canada and four bargaining groups represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada. Hoping it goes better for the Union of Taxation Employees and soon.

I'm e-mailing out resumés and checking job boards again. Networking, too. Yes, attending to this account is something I include in my job search diary under "Networking/Research/Promotion". Yes, I have to maintain a job search diary. It may be the law re: (un)employment insurance, but it's also become a good idea in itself in order to maintain some degree of self-discipline or self-regulation.

The weather today is good cause as well to stick close to my desk in the basement. Freezing rain, thunder and lightning...and I don't envy anyone who has to be outside for any reason today in Ottawa and Gatineau. Tomorrow, Environment Canada tells me, will be somewhat better. I don't expect to be in much need of cleats by the time I go out for whatever the day's travels have to be.

I'm going out for a job-search-related appointment this morning, to visit a part of the city I haven't been to in about half a year. By public transit. Which many if not most people now use while unmasked.

At least a half-hour to get there once I'm on the bus, another coming back. I expect to do shopping on the way. Not sure how long the appointment itself will be. I've dealt with this non-profit agency before. It's going to be someone new to me this time, as the two people I've regularly dealt with for years pre-Pandemic have moved on to other things within the organization or retired from it.

I am going to need to seriously cocoon for a few hours when I get back from this.

Workopolis is one of the job-search engines that started up here in Canada, and I maintain subscriptions to several alerts from that service by informed choice. Weirdness from them this past couple of weeks is as follows: I keep getting notes about jobs at Cargill out in Saskatchewan. I don't recall signing up for those alerts!

What happens to the various kinds of files of a temp company that goes out of business?

I'm still looking at job leads, even as I've tentatively accepted a new data entry contract. I can't afford to ignore bad luck, not yet.

The weather today is not doing my brain health any favours right now: lots of rain, dark grey clouds lower to the ground. People I know who live with fibromyalgia are certainly being affected in their own ways right now.
