I have an assignment from my job search coach: select three advertisements for jobs I'd like to apply for, and work up another two-page version of my resumé. Said revision should include as many "keywords" from the advertisement(s) as possible within the first half-page.

I feel as though I'm missing the point again here, because I am focusing on line- and word-editing instead.

Two jobs applied for today. Twenty to thirty different websites visited over 5-6 hours to get to that result.

Tomorrow, I'm thinking I want to make time to work up a "social media moderator" resumé. It's all volunteer stuff at this point, of course, and claiming that work as work still matters.

1. After watching the third episode of Stumptown, I finally watched the first episode of Diggstown tonight. Had the first season saved on the family PVR for months, and could not find the guts to watch it until tonight.

Yes, I know how that choice of phrasing looks.

Diggstown is worth the time, and I should have made that time sooner. My dumb.

2. I am sad at the death of Alexei Leonov. Yes, he was 85, and he'd lived a full life. He was one of the space explorers I first learned to know the names along with the likes of Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins. The first space mission I have clear memories of watching coverage of on TV was Apollo-Soyuz. We're talking multi-page spreads in the Regina Leader-Post back when they were locally owned - so I want to believe - and not a pawn of Postmedia to serve the international right-wing-big-money movement.

3. I got my hair cut today at the barber shop I've been dealing with since my dad introduced me to their dad. One of the brothers is in hospital and the other is not well yet still working. I fear for them. I couldn't do more than pay for the haircut and wish them well.

4. Enjoyed watching the first two Short Treks, "Q & A" and "The Trouble With Edward".

5. I am still trying to work out some thoughts on the changes to OC Transpo's network that took effect this week.

6. I am not indifferent. I am trying to pay attention.

I'm trying to work out another bit of resume-tailoring this morning. Meanwhile, I'm distracting myself with this. Also, the Pen and Paper writing workshop is tonight at the Rideau Branch of the Ottawa Public Library.

I want my own copy of Rachel Maddow's Drift, because I can't seem to make the time to read the copy I borrowed from the library. It strikes me, from what I have read of it so far, that it would be worth the cash and time.

More later.

Going for an interview/test session this morning as part of the job search week 2 process. Not sure how it's going to go this time.

Also: apologies for the lack of commentary here in recent weeks. Some of the reasons for that, I've already discussed here, of course...but getting some more time in for long-term writing hereabouts is a good thing to do.

Earlier today, to my mother, for several things at once.

It's good to be able to say it.

So to the rest of you sticking around here? Thanks much!

Not sure that I should be on either list anymore. I may still be a child in spirit, but there ought to be limits on how far that can carry me, right?

Since [livejournal.com profile] lonemagpie spoke up...I've meet a few actors, although I doubt any of them would remember me at all. Most of the SF authors, comics creators I've met - some of whom are likely reading this in passing - that might qualify are a bit more accessible and tend to encourage either arm's-length contact or maintain an open channel so as to lessen the "Omigod" Factor of any direct contact. The latter of which seems to work pretty well.

I use this one: Tracy Caldwell Dyson, PhD, of Expedition 24, aboard the International Space Station.

If you want to read up about the lady herself, check her bio at Wikipedia out.

Chemist, astronaut, musician.

"DEWLine" is a play on both my initials and the old Distant Early Warning Line network from the Cold War.

Not likely to change it to anything else anytime soon.

Courtroom artist in any good crime drama with a major courtroom action component. I've done the work for real for CBC News back in the day, and I could do it in this context without looking out of place.

This could render me afoul of the relevant unions/guilds, mind you, but it's a fantasy scenario here, right?

That's going to be a long list of candidates...but if I were to choose just one?

No. Can't do it. Comics, TV, movies, novels, etc.? The list's too damned long. Sorry.

Cars? Me?

Blame/praise [livejournal.com profile] fajrdrako for this: she succumbed to the LJ Writers Block meme, after all.

So...if I were inclined to finally go get my driver's license, what kind of car would I prefer to drive above all others?

Probably a Smart ForTwo or a Prius if I could possibly afford such a beast. Unless something closer to ecologically sound with similar or better performance levels were to hit the market by the time I was able to decide upon the subject.

Shoe leather and buses and the occasional train still manage to meet most of my travel support needs, though.

I'd settle for getting outside the Terra-Luna system for starters, and I'd like to see interstellar flight nailed down before I finally die. We wouldn't even have to get to the whole Orion Arm, much less the whole Galaxy. Eta Cassiopeiae, Zeta Tucanae, some of those stars with only catalogue numbers for names? Those would be fine.

Anything we actually discover as a consequence would be icing on top of the cake.

Not counting my first posting, which was more or less "Hi, I'm here now!" stuff...the post of the next day was commentary on the end of the CBC Lockout of 2005. I wanted to see CBC get better funding...and four years later, this upcoming October...what's really changed on that front for the better?

Nothing.

When I figure out my answer, I'll get back to you. Whatever that answer is.

Ever since I was a kid, I wanted one job. One dream job.

I wanted Charles Schulz' job. Equally as important, I wanted the characters he built. Charlie Brown and Snoopy, two sides of the coin metaphor of my life when I was in school. Not to go into a lot of detail, as that metaphor fits my self-perception in those days well enough that extra detail isn't needed.

Eventually, though, I got just enough of a dose of reality - namely Mr. Schulz' plans for his own future and those of his best-known toys - that it made sense to try for something a little easier to achieve.

So I looked to Spider-Man, and his friends and foes in the Marvel pantheon...and eventually matured to where DC made at least as much sense. Sometimes more sense. DC's like CBC: it's something you grow up into appreciating, and sometimes wanting to shape.

And now, today, I'm working on pencils on an indy comic. The whole artform and industry seems to be just shaking itself down just as I'm finally making my inroads into both. And yet I don't want to be doing anything else really.
