So it's finally happened.

I was kind of hoping he'd live just long enough to be in an Alpha Flight movie. I don't know which character would have been a good fit, mind you...

And for the record, I did get to meet him once, at the Magnetic North festival. I thanked him for Bob Fraser (Due South) and Duff McArdle (Power Play).

The "hamlet" - I'm having trouble thinking of a community of a thousand people as a "hamlet", as it seems more a small town - is a trivia point in the back story of Due South's central character Benton Fraser, being one of the communities in which his parents and grandparents jointly raised him. It's also a very real place, the most northern community in Canada that you can reach by road these days.

"Tuk", as it's known to many of its local people, is also one of many places across the planet now imperilled by climate derangement.

I can't remember a time when Dr. Suzuki wasn't hosting/narrating The Nature of Things on CBC's English-language TV division. This, despite the fact that he was not the series' first host.

Well, it's my expectation that he will not be the last host of the series, either. This, despite his longevity in that role across the decades. CBC has a number of qualified people already on the payroll to fill the gap. I'm leaning in favour of Nicole Mortillaro. They will do well together, given the chance.

CBC will do as it will do, of course, regardless of my opinion...

This comes as a bit of a shock:

This comes as a bit of a shock, but I suppose after Corner Gas and Trailer Park Boys did it…?

Who’s next? Due South?

After watching last night's installment of Coroner, something was reaffirmed for me: if you're not left feeling uneasy every so often watching this series, it's not working as a TV series.

I may revise this entry with additional details after work.

Who else misses Once a Thief?

A CTV-aired adaptation of a John Woo movie. Not even remotely kidding. I never was able to get the DVD set, dammit.

And this death is confirmed now.

The first cartoon voice of Spider-Man has left the Bugle Building for the last time.

And as we know from the obituary, he'd done so much else as well across the decades. I saw some of that work too.

Apparently, someone got a bright idea into their heads about one Canadian TV show in particular:

Seems like this matters. Hoping they can hold the awards ceremonies safely!

Shoulder still hurts.

Of course.

And filed in the folder marked "It isn't about you, Dwight!", I see there are still fools seeking to make the world burn. In Atlanta for example. That shooter. And that sheriff's department captain with his "one bad day" speech turning out to be a walking, talking, Trumpist-tee-shirt-hawking bonfire on legs. Senator McConnell bouncing back and forth between Washington and Tennessee. The people pushing vote-suppression legislation across the States. Premiers who look very much like they're trying to screw up the COVID file in seven provinces while disguising themselves as people who give a damn.

I'm trying to register page templates in Clip Studio Paint through the arm pain.

Maybe I should take a break and watch Coroner instead?

The ending of last night's episode really twisted a knife in my heart.

Coroner was good. Surreal and funereal - leavened with some humour - as you'd expect for a series about a doctor with the Coroner's Service set during the Pandemic, as they decided to do this season.

Snow has started falling again on Ottawa-Gatineau.

Work continues this morning.

More later.

Fifteen minutes into Coroner tonight, and already the waterworks almost started twice.

Shocked that they managed to keep Nicholas Campbell in the cast for at least this episode.

Surreal and funereal.

More as it goes...

...on the current data entry contract. Not sure how much longer it'll run for, but I'll be working through at least this morning. There's some stuff I want to double-check before I'm told to either start something else or call it a contract.

Meantime, the snow has been falling here in Ottawa-Gatineau. Not much of it, mind you, but enough to notice on the ground.

Coroner starts its third season tonight at 8 PM EST on CBC. Looking forward to that, getting caught up with Jenny Cooper, Donovan McAvoy and their circle...

Oh, thank heaven. It's his birthday coming up, not his obituary!

I said it in person years ago, but saying it again here: thank you, Mr. Pinsent!

So, Transplant is getting picked up by NBC for US broadcast.

https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/nbc-transplant-ctv-1234606881/

And Coroner is getting picked up by the CW Network.

https://www.tv-eh.com/2020/05/12/cineflix-rights-sells-coroner-to-the-cw-network/

Both of those...they're both medical dramas of different kinds. Coroner also doubles as mystery/crime fiction. I'm not sure how they'll fit onto US broadcast schedules. Transplant, which started up on CTV, with its pro-refugee/immigration perspective. That, I'm sure, will enrage the reich-wingers in the US once the word gets out. Coroner started out on CBC, our Crown-owned public broadcaster, and is a woman's-perspective show, and it does not shy away from showing broken people being broken and trying to heal themselves and one another.

And both series depict life in different aspects of Toronto as itself, as its own place. Not pretending to be anywhere else.

If you're looking for different things from your TV-watching than you've had up to now, then do consider these two series.
dewline: A marker of my age and my sports interest (hockey)
...since I'm sure that I've broken some sort of intellectual property rule by using the old Hockey Night in Canada roundel like this. This logo is part of my childhood. I don't know who owns the trademark these days - probably Rogers Communications through Sportsnet, rather than CBC or whomever else - but this was a thing I expected to see every Saturday night from October to the following May.

So I'm using this for the foreseeable future as a marker to tell you if/when I decide I want to discuss hockey in its various forms. If I ever get a Cease and Desist letter about it, I'll probably take it down and work up something else.
