Canadian Exports to US TV: Transplant and Coroner

So, Transplant is getting picked up by NBC for US broadcast.

And Coroner is getting picked up by the CW Network.

Both of those...they're both medical dramas of different kinds. Coroner also doubles as mystery/crime fiction. I'm not sure how they'll fit onto US broadcast schedules. Transplant, which started up on CTV, with its pro-refugee/immigration perspective. That, I'm sure, will enrage the reich-wingers in the US once the word gets out. Coroner started out on CBC, our Crown-owned public broadcaster, and is a woman's-perspective show, and it does not shy away from showing broken people being broken and trying to heal themselves and one another.

And both series depict life in different aspects of Toronto as itself, as its own place. Not pretending to be anywhere else.

If you're looking for different things from your TV-watching than you've had up to now, then do consider these two series.

I read some rather promising reviews of early Transplant though I get the impression it since started becoming yet another regular procedural so it may be that promise from the premise had limited legs, I guess we'll see.

Heh, it took me a while to notice Schitt's Creek was originally CBC.

In terms of calling one place another, one of my favorites is how Wonderfalls filmed on what is clearly the Canadian side and pretends it's the American one. The theme music sure grew on me quickly.

Of course, over here, anyone who knows London is frequently bewildered by small details in overseas representation, even if the landmarks really are in the city, e.g., what characters' journeys suggest about layout of or transportation between different parts.

Huh, I tend to not like either police procedurals or medical dramas, but Transplant looks interesting.

I don't know if Coroner will be good for you, but the show being about broken people trying to heal at the broken places? It extends to the title character, Dr. Jenny Cooper, as played by Serinda Swan. The mysteries and investigations...they tend to be people-focused, one way and another. They poke into where our society's broken, too.
