One more piece falling into place, maybe.

Referring to this commentary, perfectly timed for this Orange Monday in particular:

Charlie, I fully expect to remain unsafe from US law - despite living on Canadian soil as a Canadian citizen by birth and by choice and despite having no plans to visit the States - for the foreseeable future. You know about the annexation threats the Vulgarian's made in recent months. This is another of the reasons why (a) Hegseth was hired as US SecDef and (b) why Hegseth in turn fired those senior JAG officers.

If Carney remains PMoCanada after April 28th, we might stand a better chance of riding at least some of this bad craziness out. Ditto if either Singh or May gets the job. If Poilievre and his Conservatives win, we all get handed over without a fight from "Ottawa" AKA the federal government. I do not expect a lot of fellow Canadians to permit themselves to be handed over quietly in any case.

Just saying this much will draw unwanted attention to me, I'm sure.

I watched Justin Trudeau's speech via YouTube and skipped the Vulgarian's speech. Seems to have been wise regarding my mental health.

And there's concerns about the Rich, Sociopathic and Militant...

And this was the front page of the Globe and Mail today:

Simple, right?

I am wondering after today...what happens to the banking connections. The main credit card companies operating in Canada are American-based. I have one of those. All our major banks - including the one I deal with - now have American operations. The Boston Bruins operate out of a rink with the Toronto-Dominion Bank brand all over it.

Trying to shop for a 4XL winter jacket for myself without travelling too far out of my neighbourhood. My current jacket is about 10 years old, and the design works for my brain. Trouble is that retailers have their own ideas about what I should be able to buy these days.
No buttons in front, zippered pockets...these are features to my brain, not design errors.

Looking for recommendations, not financial support.

Speaking as a Canadian?

Canadian independence is at stake. If we end up geopolitically sandwiched between Trump and Putin again, we are at risk of ending up like Poland did from 1939 to 1945. As a battlefield, as an involuntary host of death camps, as a client state. Invited to submit to anschluss at best, blitzkrieg at worst. The Trumpists may say that they're focused on Mexico and points south right now, and we cannot rely upon that fixation to remain. Even if it does hold, we will need to take sides in any case.

To any Americans who can vote this upcoming November? Please vote for Kamala Harris, as she is the best of the available options right now. Do push for better candidates in the years that follow, yes. Absolutely! And vote for Harris as soon as you can, while you can, to make sure that you will be able to keep voting.

Once again, I will not be attending Can-Con in person this year. This is due to my continuing efforts to reduce my risk of COVID-19 reinfection and the consequences of it for me and other people.

Even if Can-Con went back from "recommended" to "required" on its masking policy, OC Transpo isn't even being allowed to bother one way or the other. As the public transit system is my main way of getting around Ottawa, and Can-Con is something I want, rather than need, to attend, it's one more thing I will forego.

I'm sorry about this.

Austerity is part of how fascism works to defeat us all.
dewline: Virus Don't Care (coronavirus)
As regards today's op-ed cartoon by Greg Perry...

Whatever his own opinion, the family he depicted have a legitimate reason for a long, loud cry of frustration: COVID-19 is still very much part of the picture. So long as we don't require masking up properly and good air-cleaning measures in our workplaces - including public transit to and from those spaces - and our various levels of government are not dealing with the pandemic still in progress in the proper ways otherwise, SARS-CoV-2 and its medical consequences will still plague us. Socially, economically, in every way possible. The vaccines we have are still not enough in and of themselves to end the pandemic.

Therefore, Dads and kids everywhere have every right to keep crying.

Got my eighth vaccination for COVID-19 today in my travels.

Screw it. I am not giving up or giving in on this.
dewline: Quotation: There's no point to an apocalypse if you still have to work (apocalypse)
An office chair that I believe I've owned and used since before my father died - back in 2002 - is slowly going to pieces under me. Therefore, in order to keep myself in good working order - whether that work is data entry, document review, map design or comic book illustration - I finally bought a new chair from the local Jysk store. I'm putting myself further in the hole to do this, yes. My first pay from my now-underway latest job will be deposited in four days from tonight, therefore I feel the need to Get This Done anyway. The less distracted I am from whatever work I have in front of me right now, the better, right?

The chair is described as a "gaming chair", and it's branded as "Snertinge". Apparently, it's so new to its Canadian stores, that it hasn't been added to their web catalogue as of today!

The people I share this house with think I should just put it to the curb and be done. I plan to advertise it on TrashNothing.com, offering it as either repairable or as parts for a repair job. Why not at least try to keep it out of landfill, right?

Well, it wasn't a deputation. That's apparently not until next month, which is going to...not complicate at least one other appointment at the end of November. I am going to have to deal with lost income for however long I have to be ready to deliver it on that day, I think.

What did happen was further training, as well as face time directly with three city councillors. Leiper, Troster and Devine. Also, contact with some of the staffers of other members of city council.

Focus is still on mental health, poverty reduction and housing, because the city budget-building for 2024 is underway, and the staff's under direction to keep the rate increase to 2.5 %.

What I could have felt better about? More than a half-dozen of the 50 attendees masking up, for one. Seeing working air purifiers in the room for another. Neither of those things happened, though, so...

...to advocate for extra municipal funding for mental health support programmes this morning. I've printed out three drafts of my "deputation" - city hall slang for a speech expected to last no more than five minutes - and am not sure that I'm properly set up for this.

I am, of course, terrified of being reinfected by COVID-19 by way of public transit. Not that I have any realistic alternatives to that to resort to right now for various reasons and excuses.

I haven't visited the downtown core of Ottawa-Gatineau in over a year. There have surely been additional changes to the neighbourhood that I don't know to expect.

Has anyone on my friendlist here tried this company?

https://www.ppe-supply.com/

A stranger I encountered at a Shoppers location over the weekend was wearing an orange KN95 that she attributed to them, and I finally tracked down the website. Looking for opinions on their product...
