Some things for consideration and concern.

There are people in the wider US intel communities with more time than sense. Warning delivered by Andrew Coyne via The Globe and Mail:

https://archive.is/20260327185628/https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-maga-plan-canada-dismemberment-darc-trump/

And the DARC essay itself, entitled "Our Canadian Problem":

https://archive.is/irCkw

To the DARC author in question, Canada's continuing autonomy and desire to preserve same is "anti-Americanism". A lot of you who keep in touch with me here are Americans who know far better than "John Waterman" of DARC and their fellow-travellers, thankfully.

Yes, both countries are standing on lands under Indigenous nations' stewardship, and they too rightly have informed opinions of their own on such arguments...

Yesterday, if memory serves, I added Public Health to my profile's list of interests. I consider that choice on my part long overdue.

I'd love to go. I used to be a volunteer working with the organizing committee on designing promo stuff.

Two problems with going there in person:

1) No masking-required policy in place on public transit. If I can't walk to a destination or get a lift from a trustworthy driver, I only use public transit.

2) The venue is in Kanata, at the other end of Ottawa from where I live in Orléans.

So.

If you're going, please be careful. 😷

Rachel Maddow argues that the United States is "there" now...

I have figured out some things that I have already been doing, that I will keep doing, in order to keep the Problem from fully installing itself in Canada. Other things, I need to either stop or start doing. There are lists that others have worked up, lists I should be copying from, to that end.

Resistance to the revival of the nightmare continues in the States and in Canada, of course, with or without me.

I'm also still looking for work because until either that job is secured or I'm driven out of the workforce to whatever result, I still have to live within the existing system.

Go read this if you want cues on how to respond and you live in the States:

You may have heard in recent months of the Canadian COVID Society. They're looking out for the rights of people living with, or trying to avoid having to live with, COVID infections across Confederation.

They just announced a new resource for such people:

Referring to this commentary, perfectly timed for this Orange Monday in particular:

Charlie, I fully expect to remain unsafe from US law - despite living on Canadian soil as a Canadian citizen by birth and by choice and despite having no plans to visit the States - for the foreseeable future. You know about the annexation threats the Vulgarian's made in recent months. This is another of the reasons why (a) Hegseth was hired as US SecDef and (b) why Hegseth in turn fired those senior JAG officers.

If Carney remains PMoCanada after April 28th, we might stand a better chance of riding at least some of this bad craziness out. Ditto if either Singh or May gets the job. If Poilievre and his Conservatives win, we all get handed over without a fight from "Ottawa" AKA the federal government. I do not expect a lot of fellow Canadians to permit themselves to be handed over quietly in any case.

Just saying this much will draw unwanted attention to me, I'm sure.

I watched Justin Trudeau's speech via YouTube and skipped the Vulgarian's speech. Seems to have been wise regarding my mental health.

And there's concerns about the Rich, Sociopathic and Militant...

And this was the front page of the Globe and Mail today:

I am wondering after today...what happens to the banking connections. The main credit card companies operating in Canada are American-based. I have one of those. All our major banks - including the one I deal with - now have American operations. The Boston Bruins operate out of a rink with the Toronto-Dominion Bank brand all over it.

Trying to shop for a 4XL winter jacket for myself without travelling too far out of my neighbourhood. My current jacket is about 10 years old, and the design works for my brain. Trouble is that retailers have their own ideas about what I should be able to buy these days.
No buttons in front, zippered pockets...these are features to my brain, not design errors.

Looking for recommendations, not financial support.

Speaking as a Canadian?

Canadian independence is at stake. If we end up geopolitically sandwiched between Trump and Putin again, we are at risk of ending up like Poland did from 1939 to 1945. As a battlefield, as an involuntary host of death camps, as a client state. Invited to submit to anschluss at best, blitzkrieg at worst. The Trumpists may say that they're focused on Mexico and points south right now, and we cannot rely upon that fixation to remain. Even if it does hold, we will need to take sides in any case.

To any Americans who can vote this upcoming November? Please vote for Kamala Harris, as she is the best of the available options right now. Do push for better candidates in the years that follow, yes. Absolutely! And vote for Harris as soon as you can, while you can, to make sure that you will be able to keep voting.
