Jacket Shopping 2024
Nov. 18th, 2024 10:31 pmTrying to shop for a 4XL winter jacket for myself without travelling too far out of my neighbourhood. My current jacket is about 10 years old, and the design works for my brain. Trouble is that retailers have their own ideas about what I should be able to buy these days.
No buttons in front, zippered pockets...these are features to my brain, not design errors.
Looking for recommendations, not financial support.

About that snow storm
Jan. 17th, 2022 07:10 pmWe're still under winter storm warning conditions here in Ottawa-Gatineau, but I tend to think the worst is over and done for our cities. The storm's broken a century-old record, per Environment Canada and CBC News, and that the effects of this so-called "Saskatchewan Screamer" have reached all the way to Florida.
If I'm connecting dots that shouldn't be connected, I hope you'll forgive me. Climate/weather news like this tends to drive me to it more and more. Me and mine are mostly okay, and I am grateful for this aspect of this current "work from home" job that kept me safe enough today.
More as it comes to mind.

Winter is Here...
Jan. 15th, 2020 09:46 am...in Ottawa-Gatineau and tonight we're expecting 5-10 centimetres' worth of snowy reminders of the fact. This is despite the fact that current conditions include "mist" at the airport according to Environment Canada.
Workshop went okay last night. On my way from the Rideau Library to Rideau Station to get home afterwards, though, I got a clue from Bytowne Cinema about a movie I've been hoping to see: Dark Waters, that docu-drama about lawyer Rob Bilott's fight over "forever" chemical pollution by Dupont in West Virginia. Mark Ruffalo is playing Bilott in this movie, which is another of Participant Media's co-productions. They've got one more showing in Ottawa at the Bytowne scheduled, and that's for 345 PM today. So I've got that in addition to job-search stuff today.

Weird Musical Moment Today
Nov. 16th, 2019 10:09 pmI was at St. Laurent Mall today, having lunch in the food court on the second floor, and the almost-still-kids down at ground level working their way through a list of what they see as Christmas/Winter Holiday-themed songs started into a number I wouldn't have expected to make the cut:
"Halellujah", as written by Leonard Cohen.
There you go.

Wind Chill Windup
Jan. 3rd, 2014 09:07 amSo, the wind chill warnings are still in effect for Ottawa-Gatineau today. I may yet go downtown for assorted errands and friendship reaffirmations, but will indeed be bundling up heavily if I do so. Seems the only sensible thing to do.
Also, continuing my revival of the practice of writing and sending letters on actual paper. One more letter went out in yesterday's post to a friend of long-standing, and I hope to get at least one more in by Saturday morning.

Why I hate using snowblowers
Dec. 14th, 2010 11:24 am- It guzzles gasoline and spits out climate-deranger gas vapours.
- I'm forever terrified of messing up the machine via mixing up the steps of the ignition sequence.
- There's too much to keep track of while it's running. (I know: welcome to the world of technophobes trying to cope with having to be computer-users.)
- I've grown to actually like the exercise of using old-style shovels.
