I am seeing boxes of Kellogg's product in my suburban Ottawa grocery store. Branded Wednesday and Stranger Things Demogorgon Crunch.

My brain, of course, takes in the packaging on the latter, and flashes back to a first-season episode of Space: 1999 called "Dragon's Domain". Scared the hell out of grade-school-me when I first saw it on CBC Regina TV. I cannot help suspecting that if the the modern marketing mavens at Kellogg's saw that episode of that series, the title critter would be cartoonified on the front of boxes of something called Space: 1999 - Dragon's Delight.

Noticed something for an advertisement on the federal job bank. Said job bank is administered by Service Canada for all employers advertising for help.

Anyway, the employer that's looking for a proofreader...wants them to have a driver's license.

Why?

Workopolis is one of the job-search engines that started up here in Canada, and I maintain subscriptions to several alerts from that service by informed choice. Weirdness from them this past couple of weeks is as follows: I keep getting notes about jobs at Cargill out in Saskatchewan. I don't recall signing up for those alerts!

During my exercise/mental health walk, I found a credit card issued by a Colombian bank on the sidewalk of a surburban street in my city this morning. I'm not going to say where in the city, which bank, which credit card brand, for obvious reasons. Anyway, I dropped it off at the local fire station, and the firefighters who took it off my hands will pass it along to the police, and hopefully it gets dealt with as needed from there.

The oddness of it was just seeing the thing at all. Granted that Ottawa's a national capital city, so people from all over the planet are going to visit - or live, for months to years at a time, temporarily - and it was still odd to see a credit card in any language other than English or French.

Spam Calls

Well, this was a first: a spam call that was from Shanghai directed to my cell phone. As in "my cell phone call display is telling me the number's from Shanghai".

Should I post it? Would it matter?

...and I've started seeing not my face, but my father's.

There was a strange symmetry for at least this Star Trek fan last night, learning of Sally Kellerman's death just before watching Discovery revisiting "The Galactic Barrier"...

I need a Space: 1999 avatar for this. I'll probably cobble one together later.

But, anyway, this made my night:

Yes, one of the Expanse novel-writers' partnership posted that tweet tonight. And after nine novels and six seasons of the TV series those novels spawned, they just might get some interest from ITV. Maybe.

Timing is worth a lot, right? No guarantees on any of this right now, I know.
dewline: Three question marks representing puzzlement (Puzzlement 2)
A weird thing that's happened this past week: I got a text message from my regular eye-care clinic, telling me that my regularly scheduled check-up originally set for December 2021 has been cancelled because of COVID-19 considerations. This, despite my reasonable expectation that I will be fully vaccinated before that point.

This strikes me as very strange...out of character for the clinic, I'd say.

Why am I still recalling the image of lobsters jumping up and down like excited-and-pleased-to-see-you puppies at the window next to one house's front door? And expecting to hear barking?

Something pointed out to me by Bloomberg's CityLab mailing list this afternoon.

Maybe it's the superhero comics fan in me, but this is the kind of thing that should get a Batman or an Iron Man's attention. Or more likely, Alpha Flight.

Thirty-eight police agencies across Canada?

Normally, I'd be checking up on that website on an irregular basis looking for acting or film/TV/internet-video-adjacent design jobs. The browser cannot find the site this morning. If anyone knows what's up?

Update (Same Date): problem resolved!

Despite all the jokes unwittingly made, there really is a dinosaur that we call "coronasaurus". You can find at least one fossilized skull in a museum in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

As a comics nerd, I sometimes see some things akin. "Up, up and away" being a minor example.

But.

Trademarking the name of an actual virus?

...claiming to be from the States, yet citing a home page URL ending in ".ru". In the space of a week. Right now?

Once is an accident, twice is coincidence. Thrice, I consider a threat.

Why would someone claiming Branson, Missouri as their hometown claim a home page hosted in Russia?
