Okay, Universe Publishing - a division of Rizzoli International - has licensed the rights to publish calendars inspired by the visual history of Star Trek. Currently, they publish calendars drawing upon TOS, TNG, DSC and PIC as well as a "Star Trek Cats" calendar, dressing assorted actual cats up in Trekkish garb, and the "Ships of the Line" calendar, which depict visuals of the various ships of the several series, as well as designs meant to co-exist in that universe with the "canonical" designs.

I'd like to suggest to the people running Rizzoli one more idea for that line of calendars: please take a cue from Star Trek: Star Charts by Geoffrey Mandel and company, and Star Trek: Stellar Cartography by Larry Nemecek and assorted artists (incl. the aforementioned Mandel), and launch a calendar series that can fill in some of the gaps left by those two volumes.

I am unsure as to whether or not to list what topics I'd want the artists commissioned to work on the proposed calendar to address, as I expect I'd be going into spoiler territory re: series being actively produced in Toronto, Los Angeles, Vancouver and elsewhere at the moment. If you're interested enough to name them yourselves in the comments below, however...?

I think the "phaser" t-shirt design is the only misfire of the lot here.

But see for yourselves. I'd be interested in your opinions.

Referring to the second book in this item:

I'd be interested to know if they've managed to square the circle of the Habitat ring. The illustrations and text about the contents of the Hab ring from the DS9 Tech Manual struck me as mutually contradictory. Especially when the top deck is for the six runabout hangar spaces. Eight decks minimum, not five, right?

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine missed four merchandising opportunities.
Consider Marc Okrand's Klingon Dictionary and its sequel-books. We had a chance to create similarly rich languages for the Bajorans, Cardassians, Trill, and Ferengi with this series. None of them were followed up, however much we delved into the lives and culture of characters of those species.

Not entirely sure that this should count as a review, per se. More a collection of random notes on various aspects of the whole project.

I do like the idea very much, and I hope we see some follow-up stuff in the next year or two. Preferably not another decade, like we've had between Star Charts and this.

My thanks to Larry Nemecek, Geoffrey Mandel, Ali Ries and Ian Fullwood for this, in any case!

On with the notes, then...

Got a look at this article on the Trek Collective.

Looks like Larry Nemecek and his colleagues on this project had some interesting - as in useful - brainstorms there. More over here on the subject if you're of a mind to listen rather than read.

...I've still got some stock left for anyone interested.

The price list I posted a few weeks back still holds, and I'm willing to entertain discount arrangements for people willing to buy multiple items from it, subject to product availability.

Looking forward to hearing from whoever's interested!

While I'm working out my review of Good Night and Good Luck, here's a link to an article on Christmas Vader.

Because, you know that nothin' says "Christmas" like a super-villain turned into a decoration.

Which explains Hallmark's tree decorations based on Khan Singh from Star Trek this season, and the Death Star last year.
