Rachel Maddow argues that the United States is "there" now...

I have figured out some things that I have already been doing, that I will keep doing, in order to keep the Problem from fully installing itself in Canada. Other things, I need to either stop or start doing. There are lists that others have worked up, lists I should be copying from, to that end.

Resistance to the revival of the nightmare continues in the States and in Canada, of course, with or without me.

I'm also still looking for work because until either that job is secured or I'm driven out of the workforce to whatever result, I still have to live within the existing system.

No matter who designed a printed prop for any given TV show or movie made in California over the past century, it seems that one company managed to corner the market for printing them out:

If there are similar operations in Vancouver, Toronto, Montréal...? I don't know who they are yet. I expect to find out.

And switching from listening to The Current on CBC Radio One to watching Ottawa City Hall's Environment and Climate Change Committee meeting scheduled for this morning!

Yes, my job search continues as I watch this. I consider watching city council meetings part of my job search intel-gathering process.

About the provincial "Blue Box" programme in Ontario?

I'm watching the Day 2 testimony of Catherine McKenney and Mathieu Fleury at the Public Order Emergency Commission's hearings into the Convoy Siege of Ottawa as I type this. Playing catch-up is what I'm doing.

Chilled anew at the dysfunction - accidental in places, intentional in others - that enabled this three-week siege of Centretown and Lowertown. Fleury and McKenney describe a horror and a threat that was both loud and quietly creeping. Friends of mine who live and/or work in those neighbourhoods, strangers as well, affected in an ongoing series of not-so-micro-aggressions. The theft of so many national symbols in service to a crime against the residents and workers, and a worse crime being demanded of the Senate and the Governor-General via that "Memorandum of Understanding".

We are not done with this, because the people who organized it are not done making plans to harm the rest of us. These hearings are needed, in part, for that reason.

So...Leonard Cohen was born this day.

Respect to the man who gave us "You Want It Darker", "The Future", "Democracy", "Anthem", etc..

Okay, I've been cleared to share the resources we were shown in the CAWI workshop! This is, of course, tailored specifically to Ottawa. I'm hoping to be able to look at some ACORN Ottawa stuff too in the next little while.

We've got a lot of infrastructure modifications going on across Ottawa. So, if video footage by drone fuels your appetites, have a look at this...

I gave myself an indulgence on the weekend: The Atlas of Imagined Places.

Five thousand or so fictional places, and the author and cartographer putting this book together tried to figure out where they'd all be. Don't even try to figure out how to string together the backstories of how all these places from different fictional universes could co-exist. Just enjoy and debate the placements. I will.

This is terrifying to my brain to read:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/lowest-voter-turnout-ontario-history-elections-1.6476344

Yes, there's still ballot-counting to be done as of today. Even so, the drop in turnout is a horrible development. I'd been hoping over this past decade that people were still heeding advice (*) from the likes of Rick Mercer to show up in greater numbers with each election held and completed.

And we've got municipal elections in October in Ontario, right?

(*) - Yes, the video is from 2011, and the Rant is focused on people aged between 18 and 25, and the advice still holds for the wider public.

Just stumbled onto a live 'cast of Ottawa City Council!

I noticed the AGs of Ohio and Florida - the latter not a surprise, given DeSantis' announced position - are announcing pesecutory investigation plans for the future of GoFundMe.

And of course, there's crypto-grifting going on, too:

This morning, I tried to watch the launch of the new space telescope on YouTube, but it turned out I missed the launch time by about seven minutes. I still got to see enough to make me quietly happy for most of the rest of the day.

The household range is having problems. The heating elements on top are still working just fine for frying, steaming and boiling, but the burner box - the oven - is not in good shape. I'd call the process of heating anything "sluggish" if anything. We're not sure what's caused that, and calling for help is naturally Problematic right now. So cooking lasagna was cancelled in favour of relying upon Pizza Pizza last night.

My day job is on hold until after New Year's due to lack of people available to supervise.

*shrugs*

More as it comes to mind...
