I definitely share your concerns with regard to items 1 and 2. Less so with item 3; I don't see separation going ahead.

My worry is less that it goes ahead and more that there is enough noise about it that the US uses it as a pretext to interfere with us.

I think the dangerous thing in Carney's "middle powers" speech was that a lot of his argument is that Canada will be as moral as (he thinks) we can afford to be, which can justify taking pretty much any position in the interim (though I think he is a genuine social liberal, so most of that is off the table?). Though I also think the economic case for the pipeline is poor. :/
