dewline: Virus Don't Care (COVID-19)
You may have heard in recent months of the Canadian COVID Society. They're looking out for the rights of people living with, or trying to avoid having to live with, COVID infections across Confederation.

They just announced a new resource for such people:

I believe that one of the more trustworthy Canadian info sources online at the moment re: COVID-19 is Tara Moriarty. Her main social media presence is still the Hellbirdsite, although she does maintain a Mastodon/Fediverse account as well.

https://mastodon.social/@MoriartyLab@med-mastodon.com

Excuse me while I politely ask her to resume cross-posting to the latter...

[community profile] little_details is now active on Dreamwidth for writers, artists, creative people in general looking to nail things down for their stuff.

Okay, I've been cleared to share the resources we were shown in the CAWI workshop! This is, of course, tailored specifically to Ottawa. I'm hoping to be able to look at some ACORN Ottawa stuff too in the next little while.

This might be of some interest to some of my Ontario friendlisters:

1. I got this linkage from the Weekly Typographic, an e-newsletter from the League of Movable Type: Hero Patterns and Zondicons. Both are run by Kitchener's Steve Schoger. Whom I'd never heard of before today. The former is a collection of background patterns for web pages, the latter for icons.

2. One person's idea of how many kinds of typefaces there are. You might disagree.

3. Another link from the Weekly Typographic: Sophia Yeshi on how she got into design, the value of people lifting one another up, representation...

More as it comes to mind.

If you think a map of the "high points" of the nearby regions of the Orion Arm of our galaxy might be useful to you...

Back to my job search...

How many of my friendlisters here on DW also have accounts at DeviantArt right now and are willing to say so?

Of such friendlisters, I ask one more nosy question: what should I watch out for if I sign up?

I remember that back in 2010(?), there was a Concern about DeviantArt policy requiring its users to self-identify as either "male" or "female", with no other gender self-identification options available. Did that get remedied? If so, when and how?

I just signed up for Pantone's mailing list.

I've had an account for a couple of years there. The Cartographer's Guild is a website for mapmaking pros and hobbyists and everyone in between. Decided to make more of a point of using it as a resource. Not expecting immediate results, of course, but as a long-term tactic, it can't hurt.

An incomplete listing hosted by Wikipedia:

If you know of one they don't, please add it to their list. Especially right now, I think.

So apparently, there's a Twitter account to keep interested parties up to date on observations of that system.

The most recent one had been crashing immediately upon start-up on my other MacBook (Not Pro), so this might be a serious improvement.

For the space data nerds among my friendlisters, here's something new among the stuff that's been whipped up in the wake of GAIA DR 2:

Managed to find out that there's a Twitter feed for Kevin Jardine's [twitter.com profile] Galaxy_Map operation.

And that I can link to that.
