Just so those of you outside of Canada know: we have a postal workers' strike in progress at the moment. Apologies for my delay in telling you.

I sent off my one pre-paid, Canada Post-issued postcard to someone today as part of my basement cleanup process.

For some reason, that seems to matter today.

So I've spent the day in family conference - that gets discussed in "access list" entries - as well as a ByMUG meeting, some house chores, Clip Studio Paint practice, culling basement and e-mail clutter, and other stuff.

Why was Canada Post changed from a federal department to a Crown corporation in the first place?

Yes, I can read the official story at their website, or assorted other POVs elsewhere on- or offline. And probably will soon enough. But - inspired by the unholy mess now in progress in the States, of course - I am again somewhat skeptical about the reasoning.

Your thoughts, please?

Thanks to [personal profile] eftychia for the heads-up. If you need to use regular mail to do things with people across the US border, in either direction, this looks like DT-45's people want this to be a problem for you from now on.

Yes.

I applied for two different jobs. Checked about ten other resources, some of them daily routine website visits, others were prompted by subscribed e-mail alerts, still others were ideas that just occurred to me over the morning and afternoon.

Also, I mowed the back lawn, vacuumed the ground floor, did some other house and hygiene chores. Ordered a novel I'd been putting off for weeks. Kept in touch with assorted friends and relatives.

More as it occurs to me...

My movie plans are postponed to at least Monday. I do know for a certainty that the cheque I'm waiting on is in the mail. But...holidays disrupt mail deliveries, right?

More on other matters later...

I think this was my fifth letter in almost as many weeks since learning of the service reduction news re: Canada Post.

Tonight's hardcopy-mail is off to the Vinyl Cafe. Seems like a good time to sign my name to a thank-you note to Stuart McLean for his work these past decades. I've called him "the most ruthless storyteller in Canada" and yes, that's still intended as a compliment. Based on his interview with Broadcasting Canada host Kevin Caners, I suspect he would deny himself the title. No matter. The "Dave and Morley" stories are that good.

More on other stuff as the evening wears on, I hope...

So this is going to be an ugly shock for those who still find the service of value and those who were hoping to get it back or expanded someday.

I don't currently live in one of the urban neighbourhoods that still gets "right to your door" service, and now everyone who still has it is about to lose it.

Distressing.

To put it mildly.

I went to see Iron Man yesterday, as noted. It was worth the nine loons and two hours' viewing time.

Some quick notes

I might just take in that new Hulk movie...

Oh, one more thing: that NCF Mail server issue I mentioned last entry? Solved. My normal e-mail address is up and running again.
