COVID-19 is Not Done With Us
Dec. 26th, 2023 01:01 pmAs a reminder:

"The bottom line is that, even if you had a mild case and fully recovered from the initial Covid infection without getting long Covid, your immune system has been compromised. This makes it more difficult for your body to resist other pathogens, like RSV and influenza viruses, which would account for the increased rates and severity of those infections that are now being seen. There is also evidence that Covid causes permanent, long-term changes in the immune system that are similar to AIDS."
I've been infected once.
I'll say this again:
I do not consent to reinfection.
I will not submit to reinfection.

SOLVED: Job Search: Spreadsheet Rescue
Oct. 3rd, 2022 08:42 pmLooks like downloading and using LibreOffice solves the immediate problem. I can then save it as *.xls, and then re-import the file back to Numbers, it seems.
Job Search: CRA Blockage, Part II
Jul. 26th, 2022 09:21 amAn update: I can look at the listings from "outside". But if I try to log into my job-seeker's account, the login attempt doesn't work.
That's a problem.
Meanwhile, I'm listening to The Current on CBC Radio, and they're discussing the risks faced by homeless people. The return to this ongoing discussion were prompted by yesterday's murders in Langley, BC.

Job Search: CRA Blockage
Jul. 25th, 2022 08:20 amYes, I maintain a job-seeker's account with the federal tax authorities. You try to find work in Ottawa-Gatineau without resorting to the various federal departments and agencies and see how far you can get, okay?
Anyway, I've been trying and failing to log in since Thursday. Not sure what's going on. I've left notes with several people. Moving on to continue the job search through other resources while I wait for replies.

Cellphones: New Complication
Mar. 9th, 2022 06:57 amI start up my cell phone this morning, and get this same message, over and over: "Unfortunately, Google Play services have stopped". Pressing "OK" avails me no relief from seeing the message again in 1-2 seconds. Neither does "Report", as the repetition of the message keeps me from filing a report about it.
Is my cell phone effectively "bricked"?
It was functioning properly last night when I shut it off to go to bed.
On top of everything else going in the worlds right now...

The printer head cleaning seems to have worked to a point. I've replaced the Cyan cartridge, since that finally exhausted its ink supply. Eventually, I'm going to have to test it to be sure of whatever fixes I've made so far.
Oh, the tablet computer from Air Miles arrived today. I'm letting it warm up to room temperature before I test it out because I walked it home from the post office.

Booster Annoyances
Jan. 22nd, 2022 10:03 pm1. Reading about this "Freedom Rally" crap on Twitter. Apparently, there were pro-fascist/anti-vaccination "rallies" in major cities across Canada today, including Ottawa because national capital city, right?
I have no respect for these people. None.
More detail...I was on Elgin Street picking up stuff this morning, and spotted someone hauling a white-on-black version of the Gadsden flag heading north, probably towards Parliament Hill.
WTH, guy?
2. My printer refusing to print out my provincial confirmation paperwork for tomorrow's booster appointment.

Counter-programming.
I'm a Star Trek fan. I watch Coroner.
So CTV Sci-Fi and CBC TV have me in conflict with myself and since I'm not sure of the limits of the household PVR, I'm worried about how it's going to handle multiple shows I want to keep watching. All on the same night, different channels, my paranoid self is expecting.
Privileged peoples' problems, right?

Flight and the Quiet Happy
Dec. 25th, 2021 07:17 pmThis morning, I tried to watch the launch of the new space telescope on YouTube, but it turned out I missed the launch time by about seven minutes. I still got to see enough to make me quietly happy for most of the rest of the day.
The household range is having problems. The heating elements on top are still working just fine for frying, steaming and boiling, but the burner box - the oven - is not in good shape. I'd call the process of heating anything "sluggish" if anything. We're not sure what's caused that, and calling for help is naturally Problematic right now. So cooking lasagna was cancelled in favour of relying upon Pizza Pizza last night.
My day job is on hold until after New Year's due to lack of people available to supervise.
*shrugs*
More as it comes to mind...

Pandemic: "Industrial Censorship"
Nov. 13th, 2021 02:49 pmAs opposed to the governmental variety, which most of us here know to be wary of.
This report from The Intercept about the choices made by hospitals - and other organizations - in response to news services' needs for information reminds us that "industrial censorship" is not an oxymoronic concept. It's real and it has consequences that may not have been expected either.
