I went for a walk, partly for exercise, partly for newspapers and other essentials-to-me.

The hand sanitizer apparatus at the local grocery and pharmacy were still out of order when I got there, the former for about a week now and the latter being hour-by-hour iffy.

I am pleased to note that my polite complaints about this were not met with indifference or disrespect. Both establishments took measures to either get the equipment working again or to provide a workable substitute system until repairs/resupply can be properly done.

Should I name these stores as examples of making positive efforts to assist their customers?

Yes, those are still showing up when I change web pages within Dreamwidth on occasion.

On to other topics...

Considering that I am looking at the possibility of income supports from the provincial government here in Ontario as an option, depending on whether or not I count as "disabled"...and on whether or not I can land a steadier job soon...

Considering that I have read horror stories from nations where administration of social support income has been privatised, including the UK and Australia...

This report leaves me wondering how to either stop or reverse this course as reported:

This has always been a functionally multilingual land, no matter what laws may have been passed to put a stop to the tradition and practice, either Canada-wide or in specific jurisdictions within what we now call Canada. These news items document governmental efforts to accept and accomodate the fact instead, which I approve of.

It's not new, but since they decided to aggravate it for me and hundreds - possibly thousands - of other users tonight...

I just got one of those "in order to help you improve your experience, what do you mostly use our services for?" interruption screens in the midst of my log-in to GMail.

Nosy overmuch, Google-People?

And don't remind me to believe that "privacy is dead". It's not. We're just in the process of reworking what works well enough for most of us most of the time. I'm still old/young enough to understand that.

That, if nothing else.

(The rest of you that I've been doing business with for internet services, please take note. Wherever on Earth you happen to be at the moment, okay?)

I read that the other shoe re: Timeline's finally been ordered dropped upon us all.

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/the-hot-button/your-facebook-past-is-coming-back-timeline-mandatory/article2314218/

I am now considering the idea of just purging the account and starting over from scratch after the required period for data disposal on Facebook's has concluded. Does anyone have any arguments as to why I should go through with this?

To be honest, my main complaints about Timeline are about its design: it's visually cluttered in the extreme and looks as if it's highly bandwidth-dependent in a way that's hostile to dial-up users of the Internet. The privacy issues are secondary, but close behind the design issues.
