Heads-Up re: 503 Messages

"Well, the good news is that Dreamwidth is hopping this week! The bad news is that our recent changes to make the site auto-scale during periods of high server and database load have apparently been too conservative, and that's leading to the Varnish/503 errors that people are getting. (The mysterious ones that say "backend fetch failed, guru meditation error" -- the error message is highly unhelpful, but in our defense y'all aren't supposed to see it!)
We are continuing to tweak things to improve performance, and we apologize for the errors. We'll have them fixed as soon as we can."

One of the co-founders is a little worried about some of the people not checking in right now. And seeing as I share these concerns and have asked for and obtained permission, this post includes the link to those concerns in order to boost the signal.

Fighting with Apple Photos to export pix of covers of 39 issues of Carto - le Monde en Cartes, a French-language magazine using maps heavily to explain then-current affairs at the time of publication. The new terms of service once the server farms were moved from San Francisco to Moskva required - to my understanding - that users conduct themselves on LJ as if they lived in Russia.
Well, Vladimir Putin and his cronies have put forth another reminder of what that means, and why I want nothing to do with such practices: a new batch of constitutional amendments.
