I was already safely at my day job when I heard the news over the radio. Worried about one family I know of who live in that neighbourhood. I've since found out that they're all okay.
I've been on buses passing through there, and I've ridden the train in both directions through there as well. Call the mood...sombre. Otherwise, I'm looking at this and seeing a mystery in why it happened at all.
And to think that earlier today, life felt as if it needed a Matthew Good soundtrack. Hospital Music, Vancouver and Lights of Endangered Species in particular.
I did not know the passengers on that particular run - the only one to the northern reaches currently active in VIA Rail's roster of routes - had the option of such meals. But according to reports passed along by way of Branchline Magazine this month, those are being discontinued...?
I started viarail_fandom on the weekend. Not authorized or sanctioned by VIA Rail, so don't ask'em what they had to do with it. Seemed like something no one else was doing, setting up a Community for intercity passenger rail users and watchers in Canada. So I did it.
Seeing as I like travelling by rail whenever I can, and I've noticed that no one else seems to have set up a Community for VIA Rail users/fans...should I consider launching one myself?
Update 2020: I've since set up one on Livejournal - which may have survived without me? - and another here on Dreamwidth, thirteen years later.
