You'd think I'd know better, right?

Anyway, I decided to set up a new thing for fans of Canadian-made TV shows: [livejournal.com profile] cancontv.

Doesn't matter if you live here, so long as you like at least one show that's been made here. Looking forward to seeing those of you interested...

...for just a minute.

Some of you may have seen the latest from San Diego via Newsarama. Things have been going this direction thereabouts for a couple of years now, if memory is working properly. So it seems a good idea to have a roster of alternative options for fan gatherings of this sort, if not at the same scale across the continent.

One of these got revived last year, in a bit of a rush, called CAN-CON. Officially, the sub-title is "the Conference on Canadian Content in Speculative Arts and Literature", but I still like to think of it as a convention. An event where, for a weekend, fans and professionals in the field can get together to have some shared fun and learn stuff from each other.

This year, it's September 9th to 11th, and the organizers prevailed upon [livejournal.com profile] duncanmac  and myself to set up a spot on Livejournal for anyone interested in attending in either capacity to keep an eye out for news and get questions answered before showing up, if they're of a mind to do so.

That venue is [livejournal.com profile] can_con_news . Hope to see you there from time to time between now and September.

Decided to disable images for my browser for the time being, out of consideration for anyone who might look over my shoulder here or on the road at wi-fi hotspots. Maybe a little drastic, but until these people annoying several of the community blogs are removed from LJ...

More on other stuff as the days go by.

Looks like the guilty parties have been routed. This time, at least...

This latest round of spam-postings of about a half-dozen banners - including one that I will call "NC-17" to be polite - is not welcome.

I apologize if I've chosen the wrong word from the Russian language to sum up my sentiment:

Достаточно!

Or, alternatively: Довольно, черт возьми!

I started [livejournal.com profile] viarail_fandom on the weekend. Not authorized or sanctioned by VIA Rail, so don't ask'em what they had to do with it. Seemed like something no one else was doing, setting up a Community for intercity passenger rail users and watchers in Canada. So I did it.

Seeing as I like travelling by rail whenever I can, and I've noticed that no one else seems to have set up a Community for VIA Rail users/fans...should I consider launching one myself?

Update 2020: I've since set up one on Livejournal - which may have survived without me? - and another here on Dreamwidth, thirteen years later.
