dewline: Three question marks representing puzzlement (Puzzlement 2)
I've been getting spammed with e-mails proclaiming themselves as "Notices to Appear" from someone pretending to be from what seems over a hundred law firms online.

Who knew that "lawyeringforlawyers.com" was a real thing, though, until I looked up the URL after one of the latest spam infestations? Not I.

More on other topics anon!

Has anyone found their inbox targeted for spam taking the form of "Notices to appear" from e-mail addresses claiming to be lawyers' groups?
dewline: "Fail" (failure)
Here's one: I just got a note from someone else regarding a job offer in the UK bounced into my GMail inbox.

I never sent that original note.

WTH???

So I posted this self-portrait on Blogspot about two years ago, and it seems as if two or three times a month on average someone tries to sneak a spam comment past me onto that posting's web page.

As an exercise in photographic experimentation, it really wasn't worth all that much. As an exercise in self-promotion, that entry on that particular blog was probably worth even less.

Still, the spammers are a (minor) annoyance, one I'm not sure what to do about. The temptation exists to just delete the entry. But that might be a short-lived nuisance avoidance. Same goes if I delete the blog in its entirety.

More on other stuff later either today or today...

Decided to disable images for my browser for the time being, out of consideration for anyone who might look over my shoulder here or on the road at wi-fi hotspots. Maybe a little drastic, but until these people annoying several of the community blogs are removed from LJ...

More on other stuff as the days go by.

Looks like the guilty parties have been routed. This time, at least...

Some...person...decided to try to vandalize the two LJ communities I started up from scratch with some kind of video spam today: [livejournal.com profile] ottawa_sf and [livejournal.com profile] viarail_fandom. I do not know, and do not want to know what sort of video it was.

I've deleted the attempts and filed a spambot report with the LJ authorities. It is my hope that, given this fact and the knowledge that the same...person...has attempted to similarly harm other LJ community blogs and many of those communities' administrators will likely be filing their own spambot reports(or possibly invoking harsher measures by LJ management), this will soon be the end of the matter.

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] bunsen_h, for alerting me to the problem.

In the meantime, I'd like to take the opportunity accidentally given me to remind LJ users visiting here of the existence of these two communities:

[livejournal.com profile] ottawa_sf is set up for speculative fiction fans and pros alike, dealing in all media forms and all subgenres, in the Ottawa-Gatineau region of Canada. La francophonie du "sci-fi" est bienvenue aussi!

[livejournal.com profile] viarail_fandom is for fans of passenger rail services across Canada, past and present. I originally started it to focus on VIA Rail in particular, but after reflection it seemed wrong to leave out the provincial and regional/municipal services also operating across Canada. Encore: la francophonie est bienvenue aussi!

Hoping you're well and that we get past this particular Pain in short order!
