Is there an authoritative list of such things somewhere the public can look through?

Current or historical? Because they don't have as many carpenters as they did 150 years ago. Also, the RN is an umbrella including several separate command chains: sailors, marines, musicians. Basically the main professional categories are: engineering, logistics and personnel, healthcare and medical, and warfare. Which might help you search for whatever info you're looking for?

Current is definitely what I'm looking for. Everything that you'd be swearing an oath and wearing the uniform for.

Hmm, I think you want job titles by profession? But afaik the RN organises itself by command chain and rank.

So Royal Marines Band Service (because it has the simplest structure), apart from officer ranks, only rly has two professions: Royal Marines Musician, and Royal Marines Bugler. Although specialisations do show in the job titles of higher ranks: Principal Director of Music Royal Marines is a Lieutenant Colonel, Corps Bandmaster is a Warrant Officer 1, Corps Bugle Major is a WO2, Corps Drum Major is a WO1, &c.

There should be a list online of the RN equivalent of Military Occupational Specialties. I can find the US lists, but don't have the right terms for a search of British . . .
