This morning, I tried to watch the launch of the new space telescope on YouTube, but it turned out I missed the launch time by about seven minutes. I still got to see enough to make me quietly happy for most of the rest of the day.

The household range is having problems. The heating elements on top are still working just fine for frying, steaming and boiling, but the burner box - the oven - is not in good shape. I'd call the process of heating anything "sluggish" if anything. We're not sure what's caused that, and calling for help is naturally Problematic right now. So cooking lasagna was cancelled in favour of relying upon Pizza Pizza last night.

My day job is on hold until after New Year's due to lack of people available to supervise.

*shrugs*

More as it comes to mind...

My oven has been like that all pandemic. I first noticed that I had a problem when the Mike's Pizza I tried to cook came out half done. I've figured out that the element on the bottom is not working. I can still cook stuff, but I turn the temperature higher, wait a lot longer for the oven to warm, and add ten to 20% to the time it should normally take.

All these launches are a bit of a problematic topic for me: we have tours to Baikonur directly for space launches, but it costs so much money that, probably, we will not visit there earlier than in the next life.

With all the delays the Webb space telescope has had, I'm not going to celebrate until we get pictures.

As I understand it, there's over 300 single point of failures to get through. I just hope all goes well.

Sorry to hear about your oven flaking on you! Ours breaking last week was decidedly an inopportune event, but the replacement part arrived and I should be able to get it working again Thursday.

Best of luck on yours!

If you know where it was purchased, they may be able to pull up an invoice and tell you the warranty status.  I know my oven is well over five years old, and extended warranties rarely go beyond that. IMHO, if the rest of the oven is functional, it may be.  Another option is to look at AppliancePartsPros.com and see if you can figure out what the problem is and DIY.  In my case, it was quite blazenly obvious that the heating element had snapped in two, and the video was equally obvious that replacing it is quite easy, so I'm going to do it myself.  A service call is a minimum $100 plus the cost of the part, ignoring any dealer markup on said part.  So I'm saving quite a few bucks.  But your problem may not be just the element. There should be a tag on the door that shows you the exact model number, I'd suggest snapping a photo with your phone for easy reference when you're at your computer.

Yeah, unless the warranty/purchase was registered with Maytag, might be out of luck there unless you can find a receipt or the manufacture date can be traced through the serial number.  Personally I almost never send in warranty cards.
