If you're interested in (a) moving to Ottawa and (b) working for a community-owned ISP, you might want to keep an eye on this page belonging to my ISP:

If you see anything that looks like a good fit for you, please let them know!

So I've spent the day in family conference - that gets discussed in "access list" entries - as well as a ByMUG meeting, some house chores, Clip Studio Paint practice, culling basement and e-mail clutter, and other stuff.

I got an email yesterday, telling me that the old style links www.ncf.ca/~ad696 are being discontinued. So have a bunch of other member-users of National Capital FreeNet, re: their own website addresses. I haven't used them in years but I expect that there'll be some floating around for time immemorial, places that I no longer have access to...

National Capital FreeNet's telling all of us member-users that web-hosting is temporarily down.

I'll let you know when it's back up.

Update: The website's still viewable, but apparently my ability to edit may be temporarily kaput.

They're my ISP, and they're looking for people right now. In case you're interested...

Quoting yesterday's mass e-mailout to NCF members from current Executive Director Shelley Robinson:

NCF believes that everyone in our region should have access to affordable and high quality internet and related technologies, understand how to use them and feel safe online. And we’re proud that our locally-hosted ad-free email service has been part of this work since we launched our services in February 1993.

Twenty-five years later, we launched our Community Access Fund, which helps those living on low incomes access the internet and learn how to use it safely. In that time we have offered almost 300 Ottawa Community Housing tenants a lower-cost unlimited use internet package, as well as offering all our members dedicated workshops and special events like Digital Access Day.

We want to expand the Community Access Fund with more digital literacy training and opening up the lower-cost internet package to other folks living on low incomes. Our goal is raising $10,000 and at least doubling the enrollment in the program. Please donate today to help support this work.

This morning, I had 87 % of my mailbox quota filled.

Tonight, without deleting a single e-mail sent or received beyond what I normally get rid of, the mailbox was filled to 29 % of capacity. NCF management decided they could afford to give us user-member-subscribers more storage capacity, so why not do it?

Thanks, friends!
