Apparently, there's a mass dismissal of workers in the works this weekend.
So you might want to heed Allison Gill's advice in the link below before reading any of your office e-mail.
No joke.

Three Things - 16 December 2024
Dec. 16th, 2024 07:18 am1. I really don't trust François Legault's definition of "secularisme" in Québec.
2. Looks like papermail delivery is restarting in Canada tomorrow (AKA December 17th, 2024). I worry about the possible consequences of how that was arranged.
3. If you've watched a recent Hallmark Christmas-themed movie, you might have seen parts of Ottawa.

Canadian Workers' Mourning Day

We don't have a holiday as such for this. We do have ceremonies of observance.

May Day 2023
May. 1st, 2023 09:16 amThis is what Labour Day was created to distract us from in Anglophone "North America", right?
As of this year's edition, I'm still looking for steadier work, better work, honest or at least honourable work. My most recent contract was fun, good, mentally healthier, better-paying than I'd had before. Too bad it was only two months.
Pleased to see the tentative agreement between Treasury Board of Canada and four bargaining groups represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada. Hoping it goes better for the Union of Taxation Employees and soon.

Noting this in the opening text of the legislation:
"The Act provides for new collective agreements. The central terms for those collective agreements are set out in the Schedule. The Act requires the termination of any strike or lock-out and prohibits strikes or lock-outs during the term of the collective agreement.
The Act is declared to operate notwithstanding sections 2, 7 and 15 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Act will apply despite the Human Rights Code.
The Act limits the jurisdiction of the Ontario Labour Relations Board, arbitrators and other tribunals to make certain inquiries or decisions. It also provides for there to be no causes of action or proceedings against the Crown for certain acts. Certain proceedings are deemed to have been dismissed.
The Act provides for regulations, which may be retroactive. Regulations providing for transitional matters will prevail over the Act in the event of a conflict."
Meanwhile, over at Twitter:

I'm wearing purple today, because it's been noticed that Ford's developed Putinist Colour Revolution Allergies.
Labour Day 2022
Sep. 5th, 2022 04:00 pmOnce again, I didn't go to the parade. Between the Pandemic and family matters, it wasn't going to happen this year either.
However, I'm still of a mind that workers' rights matter. I plan to keep talking and voting accordingly. The next chance that I have to vote in support of such things will conclude on October 24th for the municipal elections across Ontario.
Owing to my travels on foot across various parts of eastern Ottawa today, my feet are particularly achey right now. My own fault, that.

People Getting Work Done at Twitter
Sep. 22nd, 2021 10:31 amI'm feeling more comfortable with Twitter as a company after reading this particular article about Dantley Davis, currently Twitter's Chief Design Officer:
https://www.fastcompany.com/90674877/death-threats-misinformation-and-racism-in-silicon-valley-meet-the-designer-shaping-the-future-of-twitter
The article details some of Mr. Davis' history before and during his time at Twitter, and some of the improvements that he's had a direct hand in bringing about and some side mentions of upcoming additions to that service as well.

Labour Day 2021: What To Do?
Sep. 4th, 2021 09:17 amACORN's desires - perfectly understandable and shared! - aside, I think I am going to avoid this year's Labour Day parade here in Ottawa. Because I don't want to make things medically worse for neighbours near and far. I want to pay my respects to the occasion somehow, but not sure of how to do so at the moment.

How DO we "build back better"?
Dec. 1st, 2020 08:09 pmI'm listening to this installment of Ideas on CBC Radio One as I type this:

Some of you are already working on your ideas of building a better "normal" than we had before the Pandemic in Progress, I know...
