Jan. 14th, 2024 09:24 am1. David Chase fears that the end of long-form TV has arrived. I'd like him to be able to celebrate being wrong.
2. Peter Capaldi wants to make sure that entertainment talent from the lower classes remains discoverable and supported. He's absolutely right about that.

News Notes: 13 August 2023
Aug. 13th, 2023 09:50 am1. Thwaites' Glacier is no more.
2. I'm not living in any of the affected houses. I've learned from my circles of family and friends, though, that basement window wells are...problematic as well during such rainfall.
3. Another side effect of recent rainfall here. One of the buildings affected houses a past employer of mine. I want to check in with them on Monday morning out of concern.
4. And yeah, we may have voted badly last year.

Job Search: Resumed
Apr. 5th, 2023 02:07 pmI'm e-mailing out resumés and checking job boards again. Networking, too. Yes, attending to this account is something I include in my job search diary under "Networking/Research/Promotion". Yes, I have to maintain a job search diary. It may be the law re: (un)employment insurance, but it's also become a good idea in itself in order to maintain some degree of self-discipline or self-regulation.
The weather today is good cause as well to stick close to my desk in the basement. Freezing rain, thunder and lightning...and I don't envy anyone who has to be outside for any reason today in Ottawa and Gatineau. Tomorrow, Environment Canada tells me, will be somewhat better. I don't expect to be in much need of cleats by the time I go out for whatever the day's travels have to be.

The "hamlet" - I'm having trouble thinking of a community of a thousand people as a "hamlet", as it seems more a small town - is a trivia point in the back story of Due South's central character Benton Fraser, being one of the communities in which his parents and grandparents jointly raised him. It's also a very real place, the most northern community in Canada that you can reach by road these days.
"Tuk", as it's known to many of its local people, is also one of many places across the planet now imperilled by climate derangement.

Climate Derangement: A Local Note
Nov. 7th, 2022 08:07 amYesterday, Ottawa-Gatineau experienced the third-warmest recorded November 6th in its known history.

About that snow storm
Jan. 17th, 2022 07:10 pmWe're still under winter storm warning conditions here in Ottawa-Gatineau, but I tend to think the worst is over and done for our cities. The storm's broken a century-old record, per Environment Canada and CBC News, and that the effects of this so-called "Saskatchewan Screamer" have reached all the way to Florida.
If I'm connecting dots that shouldn't be connected, I hope you'll forgive me. Climate/weather news like this tends to drive me to it more and more. Me and mine are mostly okay, and I am grateful for this aspect of this current "work from home" job that kept me safe enough today.
More as it comes to mind.

Swings of Weather, Again
Dec. 15th, 2021 01:49 pmRight now, we've got snowfall kicking back into gear in Ottawa. Over the next day, we're told to expect swings back and forth between snow and freezing rain, dancing on both sides of the "freezing" mark, and tomorrow we go up to 13ºC, with a 40% chance of further precipitation.

Looking at this for a few minutes:

I didn't think things were moving this quickly on the global scale in terms of cars and trucks. Yes, the manufacturing process is still messy as Hell. But are we making progress of some sort here? I think the answer to that question is "yes".
armiphlage,
autopope, you might have some informed context to add here...? Anyone else?

Checking In - 26 August 2021
Aug. 26th, 2021 07:44 pmAnd the heat warnings keep on keeping on hereabouts. We might expect some rain on Saturday. Maybe. It's not a certainty yet.
Household's been quieter today than earlier in the week, for which I am grateful.
Expecting some entertainment from Lower Decks later tonight.
Managed to remember to check my browser bookmarks for websites I haven't looked at in months for job search purposes, which was good.
Not feeling doomed at the moment, which is also good.
