...in Ottawa-Gatineau and tonight we're expecting 5-10 centimetres' worth of snowy reminders of the fact. This is despite the fact that current conditions include "mist" at the airport according to Environment Canada.

Workshop went okay last night. On my way from the Rideau Library to Rideau Station to get home afterwards, though, I got a clue from Bytowne Cinema about a movie I've been hoping to see: Dark Waters, that docu-drama about lawyer Rob Bilott's fight over "forever" chemical pollution by Dupont in West Virginia. Mark Ruffalo is playing Bilott in this movie, which is another of Participant Media's co-productions. They've got one more showing in Ottawa at the Bytowne scheduled, and that's for 345 PM today. So I've got that in addition to job-search stuff today.

I figure to be at the Rideau branch of the library by 630 PM tonight.

See you later, in any case...

Managed to find this, because I suspected that Elgin Street was off-limits to the parade route this year due to the ongoing reno work:

Anyone else planning to attend along the route at any point? I figure on doing my semi-usual photography walk alongside the parade again. Weather permitting. And looking at the forecast on Environment Canada, that might be iffy this time around.

Going to the Mammoth Book Sale at the Ottawa City Archives this morning.

I'll check in later in the afternoon, okay?

...and about to head out the door. 90 minutes by bus to get from A to B, where "A" is eastern Ottawa and "B" is the corner of Woodroffe and Tallwood. So I'd best be getting ready.

I'll be at the Shanghai Restaurant for supper and a chat session with a bunch of cartoonists, designers, animators, etc. tonight. Said restaurant's a half-block east of the corner of Bronson and Somerset West, on the north side of Somerset West. It's their first jam session of 2016. Any time after 6 PM should be good for you to start showing up.

Yes, it's short notice. I apologize for that.

So I think I'm going to continue photographing street name signage in upper Overbrook/Castle Heights/lower Vanier this afternoon. Some of those photos will end up attached to Spacing Ottawa essays down the road, I expect.

If the local Sask. Roughriders' fan club doesn't have anything planned tonight, I may decamp to a Second Cup or Bridgehead to do some writing over a light dinner. Not sure yet, not locked in yet.

Did some job-hunting this morning along with house-chores.

Tonight, it's Corner Gas: the Movie in my travel plans. If there's any seats left.

Also, noticing that Citizenfour is back at the Silver City Gloucester as well. So, if I can't get in to see the one, the evening may not be a complete loss.

I figure on attending this on Thursday night.

As for the group's purpose? Details here in the "About us" link. With my addition to design issues rooted in things all the way back to TOS Trek and Space: 1999, I figured I had to go have a look.

More on other stuff later in the day...

Following up on this comment...

I did say that I have a long list of places across Ottawa-Gatineau that I want to personally visit and explore on foot. Partly that's due to plain old curiosity, and partly it's due to this project I've taken on to document street names' histories via my irregular series of essays in Spacing Ottawa. (Thanks to anyone reading this who's been following that project over the years thus far, by the by!)

In the last couple of months, in between my other chores and quests for things like full-time steady employment, I've managed to knock off large chunks of a few neighhbourhoods on that list:

Manor Park
Southern Rockcliffe Park
Lindenlea
Tunney's Pasture
Westboro Beach
Riverside Park/Elmvale/Alta Vista
Lowertown East
Southern Glebe

It's not complete, and there's a long way to go. And a long way already travelled.

Hoping to learn much more along the way.

The question was raised in my mind a few days ago yesterday, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rfmcdpei. Living in Ottawa-Gatineau, there's a bit of a list I could cobble together without trying too hard. That list would be a long one. It would be a long list, even without my having to consider whether or not we're talking about travelling outside of Ottawa-Gatineau.

More to follow later in the week day on this subject in particular...

As a means of self-protection by public disclosure:

I'm going to be taking pictures of street-name signs along Hemlock Road later this afternoon. Specifically, side-streets branching northward from Hemlock Road.

In other words: me and my camera will be roving from east to west along the border between Beechwood Cemetery and Rockcliffe Park.

Weather permitting, of course.

If the weather does not permit, I'll probably postpone the expedition a week or two.

It is my longterm goal to travel the entirety of Ottawa's riverfront that can be reached on foot. Thus far, I've gotten the following segments:

- from Voyageur Drive to the Rockcliffe Yacht Club + Flying Club/Cdn. Aviation and Space Museum.

- the base of the cliffs on which Parliament Hill sits.

- from Tunney's Pasture + Remic Rapids to the Kitchissippi Lookout and Westboro Beach.

Needing to work up a proper map of this progress...

...and I've been checking job boards, listening to the Sunday Edition on Radio One, vacuuming the residence, getting milk and doing some other stuff like trying to polish off a practice pencil sketch of Daredevil.

I miss drawing regularly. I used to be able to say that I spent at least an hour of every day working with pencil or pen and putting something that made visual sense to paper. Now I go anywhere from a day to two weeks without that. There is something Wrong in this.

However, there's other things to do in the meantime. Today, it's the ByMUG meeting at Patty's in the Market.

Just so you know.

Okay. Public Transit in Ottawa's back in business. You may want to keep an eye on this if you care about buses, LRT and so on within the Ottawa-Gatineau region. More on that anon.

Not sure what I'm doing tomorrow except that I'll be downtown for part of it.

Going to Comic Jam at the Shanghai Restaurant tonight.

More on other stuff later.

It's more abbreviated as an announcement than I'd originally hoped, but hunting for day-jobs has preoccupied me a lot lately. And holding down the day-job I did have for the last 5-6 months before that.

Sorry.

Starting tomorrow night, I'll be doing photography at several WritersFest events. Haven't quite finalized the schedule yet.
