This isn't an "authorized" follow-up yet. But...some of you might remember my article on the backstory of Eastway Gardens originally "Bannermount". If not:

http://spacing.ca/ottawa/2010/09/13/ottawas-alphabet-village/

There's a bit of a follow-up nine years onward. The people living there now might have their own hopes and plans, but it's going to get (more) complicated to act upon those plans judging by this report from CBC News Ottawa:

We're talking here about lands bordering on the cloverleaf interchange at Tremblay Road and St. Laurent Boulevard here. When I first moved to Ottawa back in 1985, they were used by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. I don't recall what that branch of the provincial government did there. Evidently, the land fell into federal hands in the decades since then. Sandwiched, so to speak between Avenue U and St. Laurent. Does it mean we finally get Avenues V, W and X added in? I don't know right now.

Something to keep an eye on.

Finally getting around to a project for the "Street Names" series that's been nagging at my backbrain for a few months now. A little bit of historical advocacy and opinionation on my part, to be honest. Further details as soon as I'm able to announce.

In the meantime, I continue to recommend the rest of the content of Spacing Ottawa as a source of inspiration for discussion and debate about how we should continue to (re)build the Ottawa-Gatineau region.

So I attended a lecture he gave at the National Gallery on Monday night. Recommending that you read Brynne Campbell's commentary on the event over at Spacing Ottawa.

More on other stuff later...

It's fun sometimes to see your own city through someone else's eyes.

Following up on this comment...

I did say that I have a long list of places across Ottawa-Gatineau that I want to personally visit and explore on foot. Partly that's due to plain old curiosity, and partly it's due to this project I've taken on to document street names' histories via my irregular series of essays in Spacing Ottawa. (Thanks to anyone reading this who's been following that project over the years thus far, by the by!)

In the last couple of months, in between my other chores and quests for things like full-time steady employment, I've managed to knock off large chunks of a few neighhbourhoods on that list:

Manor Park
Southern Rockcliffe Park
Lindenlea
Tunney's Pasture
Westboro Beach
Riverside Park/Elmvale/Alta Vista
Lowertown East
Southern Glebe

It's not complete, and there's a long way to go. And a long way already travelled.

Hoping to learn much more along the way.

To get the obvious comic book and SFTV jokes out of the way: no, I did not see either Aquaman, Mera, Garth, Tula, Namor, Namorita, nor even Patrick Duffy here. Sorry.

This is definitely going to get some bandwidth in the Spacing Ottawa Street Names series, though. There's story behind this...

Rummaging through the Ottawa sections of the Skyscraper Page Forums for topics of interest.

You might want to rummage there too, whether or not your city has a section there. There's some fun to be had by science-fiction-minded architecture and design fandom...

Okay. Got the bulk of another piece of work for Spacing Ottawa done. Not sure when it's going live, but I'll post here when it does for anyone who's not already got that website bookmarked for regular viewing. Which I hope most of you are doing, but not necessarily for my ego's sake.

Meantime...

Got some more illustration time in today, with actual pencil and paper as opposed to Manga Studio. I need to make regular time for both sets of tools. This is going to be absolutely vital in order to get comfortable enough to start working on scripts on a continuing basis.

Yes, I'm also still looking for a regular day-job. Managed to file applications on several positions today, which is a good thing.

More as it develops...

Anyone want to take that title and make a song out of it?
