That blog is now on hiatus. Details here:

https://www.artofthetitle.com/news/editors-note-2024/

Also, their syndicated feed to Dreamwidth has now been taken by what looks like a Vietnamese footwear company...?

Sorry for not noticing until just now. I missed this for six months!

Fascists will be blocked here.

If any of you on my friendlist think that a particular person might be salvageable and that I might be able to help with that, message me. Otherwise...they're blocked.

Note to anyone needing to know: fascists includes TERFs.

Spark is discussing the problem of "link rot" this week. It's an ongoing issue for all of us, I suspect, depending on how old our respective weblogs are. I'm guilty of aggravating the problem by way of not correcting links between blog entries here since moving the whole blog over from LiveJournal to Dreamwidth back in 2017, for example.

Also, I think that paywalls aggravate the "link rot" problem. But what to do to keep those old news services' archives preserved and available without undermining peoples' efforts to keep earning whatever living they can?

A friend of longstanding going back to - I think - Usenet times just noted an anniversary today: Elayne Riggs notes that this is the 18th anniversary of the start of her internet life's weblogging component.

Well done, Elayne! Hopefully, despite all manner of chaos these past few years and expected in the decades to come, we will both manage to keep living long and maybe even prospering a little (more than we have been up to now)!

I've been getting some overdue updating done to my home website's various pages. Which still need work, I'm sure.

Also, since Google Plus is no more, I needed a way to get some Google Photos albums to where people can see them. So, I've done an update on the Artblog.

Once upon a time, back in the LJ years, I decided to try to give myself some idea of where visitors to my weblog were visiting from. Something like MapLoco or one of its competitors. I remember dropping that from my profile page some years later, but not the reason(s) why. Wondering if I should resume that habit, and why or why not.

Is everyone else on Dreamwidth who's reading [syndicated profile] pressthink_feed doing so at source rather than on Dreamwidth?

I like reading about journalism. The business, the ways and means, the people who do the work...all of it. I praise/blame Spider-Man and Superman for that, at least in part.

(For that matter, assuming that the Big Development in the Superman comics titles is old news to the public by now...how's the fact of Clark Kent going public about his dual-ID going over so far?)

Not sure what to make of this yet, but my thanks to [personal profile] andrewducker for pointing this out to me:

Decided to add one for tv-eh.com to my feeds. It's a blog devoted to Canadian-made TV series.

Question: given the recent move of the Livejournal servers to Moscow, shall I shut down the Ottawa Fandom Community on LJ? Or try to migrate it to Dreamwidth?

Alternatively: There's some additional activity there, but the last time anyone other than me posted there was 2012. So, if anyone who's planning to hold onto their LJ account wants to keep it going, I'll transfer ownership.

Maybe [personal profile] ed_rex?

I now have, at this writing, 1,500 tags from which to choose for my blog entries. Exactly that.

This was a minor surprise.

[syndicated profile] spacingottawa_feed is now a thing here on Dreamwidth. If you're interested in urban infrastructure in Ottawa-Gatineau...

Well, this is new to me. Although a number of friends and acquaintances have already been linked into this blog by those curating it...

I want to view my profiles - whether my own personal profile or anyone else's on LJ - the way I'm used to. Not the way LJ management currently wants me to. They keep insisting that they know better than their customer base what we want.

Dammit.

As if there wasn't enough to cope with, right?

At least it still looks the way I set it up to look for now.

Until they meddle with that, too, of course.

Okay, updating Firefox from 17 to 18 doesn't seem to help matters. My Livejournal - on Firefox - still looks like this:

Chrome and Safari? It still looks exactly as I want it to on those browsers.

This is new to me. [livejournal.com profile] tombierbaum might be able to set me straight, though...?

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] coudal for pointing the blog out to me!

I promised the other day to run down a partial list of infrastructure-related weblogs I like reading regularly. So, in delivering on that promise...

I'll admit up front to the bias towards the Spacing Magazine-backed regional weblogs. I contribute to the Ottawa edition, and went to work with them on the basis of their magazine's in-print material. So, in addition to [livejournal.com profile] spacing_ottawa, we have four others:

Spacing Vancouver
Spacing Toronto
Spacing Montréal
Spacing Atlantic (focused on the Canadian cities of the Atlantic coastal provinces: Saint John, Fredericton, Moncton, Halifax, Sydney, Charlottetown, St. John's and so on)

(While I've got your attention: Spacing is looking for contributors to similar weblogs they've got in the works for these cities: Edmonton, Calgary, Regina, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Ville de Québec. If you live in any of those cities and you've got informed opinions on the infrastructure there - the definition of "infrastructure" is more wide-ranging than you might think! - go talk to them ASAP!)

Added to that from across Canada:

Public Transit in Ottawa
Public Transit in Vancouver (which apparently has fallen fallow since 2008! Distressing!)

From the rest of the planet:

The Transport Politic
The Next American City
Atlantic Cities
Good
BLDGBLOG

Anyone have any recommendations for adding to this list? I know it's incomplete!
dewline: Text - "On the DEWLine" (Default)
The Infrastructurist is calling it quits.

More on this later, probably with some recommendations of my own on what else to actively keep an eye on...and a request for recommendations from the audience to go with it, most likely.
