The building to come, meant to host both the Main Branch of the Ottawa Public Library and the geneology resources of Library and Archives Canada in years to come, now has a name: Ādisōke.

Formerly the Confederation Building, which used to be home to several federal offices...now it's becoming student rental housing! Specifically Theo Ottawa by brand-name.

Formerly the Confederation Building...

Not an event I expect to partake in this year for various personal reasons, but this news report on some possible highlights might be of interest to some of you reading this:

My home? Probably not ready.

On the other hand, if you're looking for steady work for the next few decades? Construction, renovation and demolition just got much more support.

...and I could talk about Dr. David Saint-Jacques' arrival at the Space Station. I count that as good news, and I hope his six-month tour there goes well.

I admit to continuing worry about the Ford "administration" at Queens Park. There may be due cause for worry.

I see parallels starting to form between what's happening with Magee House and what's happened to Somerset House over the last decade. What's left of the latter is still standing, but it really doesn't look great.

More later...

Anyone else reading this planning to take in any of the events on the schedule?

I already have Kate Ascher's The Works, so small surprise that I'd like to have this new book of hers to go with it. Useful for both illustration and writing reference, I suspect.

Maybe someday. One more reason to keep looking at the job boards...

More on other topics later in the day.

Seems that Export Development Canada moved out of their long-time "signature" building into larger quarters elsewhere in Centretown, and now the older building stands mostly empty but for the ground floor tenants.

If you're running a smaller business and want better digs, you might be interested in at least a chunk of one floor. Possibly more than one floor?

While checking out [livejournal.com profile] spacing_ottawa's sister weblogs, I came across an entry of interest re: the "intensification" doctrine of urban redevelopment in older neighbourhoods: The Genius of Walk-Up Apartments. Written by Alex Bozikovic and Toronto-focused, I'm finding myself thinking that this does have applications across the country if not the planet.

Opinions?

It seems that intersection where Centretown and Somerset Village meet simply cannot catch a break of late. Witness this latest misfortune reported by CBC News for details.

Just sad.
