A promise about designing a wordmark...
Mar. 18th, 2020 08:50 pm...I seem to remember making to one of you on my friendlist today. Or one of your friendlisters.
I need a memory refresher, because I want that Adobe Illustrator practice time!
I remembered: it's for

Versions of Home Long Dead
Nov. 23rd, 2019 07:43 amSeanan McGuire made a point about the versions of "Home" we keep on carrying with us, no matter what other people said about and did to those versions back when they actually existed physically.
There were things about living out west that I hated and feared. That I was glad to be away from when I moved here to Ottawa-Gatineau. There are things that I was and still am glad to have found when I got here. I didn't go through gentrification (yet), and my city may be less hard-hit by climate derangement during the rest of my lifetime than other parts of this planet.
But I realize now that it still hurt that I felt that I had to leave in the first place. Being able to fly away to a place that felt like it was going to be healthier for me...and was and still is, in several ways...doesn't detract from that hurt.

Saturday Stuff
Oct. 12th, 2019 08:59 pm1. After watching the third episode of Stumptown, I finally watched the first episode of Diggstown tonight. Had the first season saved on the family PVR for months, and could not find the guts to watch it until tonight.
Yes, I know how that choice of phrasing looks.
Diggstown is worth the time, and I should have made that time sooner. My dumb.
2. I am sad at the death of Alexei Leonov. Yes, he was 85, and he'd lived a full life. He was one of the space explorers I first learned to know the names along with the likes of Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins. The first space mission I have clear memories of watching coverage of on TV was Apollo-Soyuz. We're talking multi-page spreads in the Regina Leader-Post back when they were locally owned - so I want to believe - and not a pawn of Postmedia to serve the international right-wing-big-money movement.
3. I got my hair cut today at the barber shop I've been dealing with since my dad introduced me to their dad. One of the brothers is in hospital and the other is not well yet still working. I fear for them. I couldn't do more than pay for the haircut and wish them well.
4. Enjoyed watching the first two Short Treks, "Q & A" and "The Trouble With Edward".
5. I am still trying to work out some thoughts on the changes to OC Transpo's network that took effect this week.
6. I am not indifferent. I am trying to pay attention.

BIRTHDAYS: Jack Kirby
Aug. 28th, 2019 11:53 pmSo...I'm reminded that today was Jack Kirby's birthday...
I have another Eye Institute checkup tomorrow morning. This one will include a first: an ultrasound scan. I remember being told this is to establish a baseline for the stuff they're keeping watch on inside my left eyeball.
I also remember being told what they're looking at during my last appointment, and I remember writing the phrase down. I can't recall the phrase, though.

Serling's Words in Memory of Dr. King
Jan. 21st, 2019 09:22 pmA friend pointed this out to me tonight. A letter from Rod Serling to the Los Angeles Times remarking on certain particular consequences of Martin Luther King Jr.'s death:

Movies in 2017
Feb. 12th, 2018 10:07 pmI am trying to remember all the movies I went to the cinema for last year. I can recall seven, but I'm thinking that there were more...and after a quick run through my log entries tagged "movies", I find myself remembering correctly.
Ten, in fact, same as in 2016.

One thing before I forget...
Dec. 24th, 2017 08:12 pmFor whatever help it gives anyone in my friendlist right now: tomorrow will be the 15th anniversary of my father's death. I still miss him, despite the passage of the years. The day remains the birthday of others whose well-being and wisdom I value. There is a balance in this.
I wish you good tidings, whatever you're celebrating or commemorating.

Remembering Leah Adezio
Sep. 11th, 2016 09:02 amWe knew her here on Livejournal as
pikachette, and she was a friend to many in North American comics and SF fandom. Today was her birthday and she's still missed.
