dewline: Facepalming upon learning bad news (bad news)
Yesterday, I needed to be reminded that "eavestrough" is a word and what it's used for.
dewline: (canadian media)
I didn't know that And Sometimes Y was being brought back out of the CBC Archives as a podcast series!

"Ambivert".

Not planning to explain the context. My apologies for that.

We re-learned that word here:

Merriam-Webster has this as their Word of the Day this morning.

Their definitions on record include these options:

1. exceeding reasonable limits : immoderate
2. archaic: disorderly, unregulated

Either of which seems appropriate to my feelings about my own situation, and that of billions of other fellow humans right now.

So. That's a word now.

I didn't think that it existed until this morning, but a quick web search explains with its search results that the word has been around for at least a few weeks. Possibly, much longer, but my attention span and ability to focus are not what they could be right now. So it's likely something I've missed.

And I've been doing a lot of both. You could say my job search has involved a lot of that too. No, you won't be subjected to more details than already given in past postings. You're all dealing with pains of your own.

Or, in its one-word form, "fullstack". I've seen the term appear in several ads on multiple job-search services. Is this a good enough explanation of the concept for a layperson coming to it fresh?

Are we all becoming media research analysts lately? As at least a "side hustle" to whatever else we're doing in our lives?

I was looking at this one advert by Cision Canada seeking such specialists of late, and it seems like I've been living my life in such a way that requires building up that skills set.

(Has it happened over the course of years/decades since we got our respective access to the Internet? I think so.)

This is a new one, by way of my job search taking me to CharityVillage.com today.

For [personal profile] conuly, inspired by recent discussion. I like the song for various reasons.

I have no hope of qualifying for the job, I suspect, but as someone interested in astronomy in general the National Research Council advert caught my attention anyway. NRC is looking for a "Radio Astronomy Signal Chain Engineer" for their Herzberg Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Centre as I write this. Does anyone in my friendlist know what goes into that job?

Scurryfunging. We've all done it at one point or another. And you'll agree with me about that once you've read yon Omniglot Blog entry about that word.
dewline: Text: Additional Investigation Required (questions)
Something I stumbled onto re: an opening at the National Research Council's Saskatoon offices and labs. I doubt that I qualify for the position, but as a science-fiction nerd, the term does make me curious.

(In any case, I've bookmarked the current NRC careers home page for myself. Just in case.)

I'll probably look the term up myself later today, but it comes up in at least one advertised position at the CBC in my Workopolis alert subscriptions this morning.

Any thoughts?

I have another Eye Institute checkup tomorrow morning. This one will include a first: an ultrasound scan. I remember being told this is to establish a baseline for the stuff they're keeping watch on inside my left eyeball.

I also remember being told what they're looking at during my last appointment, and I remember writing the phrase down. I can't recall the phrase, though.

This word is from Inuktitut. It's a more positive concept-word. Literally, "practice to achieve", or perhaps more colloquially, "practice makes perfect".

It's a mental health issue, and my web surfing today led me to it. It seems disturbingly familiar in the contexts of interpersonal relationships and in politics on several scales. Certain people we all know of from the news might well see it as a weapon to use or a goal to achieve...but not within themselves in the latter instance.
