Last Week of April 2021
Apr. 26th, 2021 09:33 amSo, I'm back to the job search, listening to The Current on Radio One, and still feeling like I'm neglecting one aspect of the job search (teaching myself to use assorted design software) in favour of another (searching job boards and applying for specific positions).
Also, looking at videos in the "How to ADHD" series as part research, part self-care.
Also, keeping an eye on my immediate family for assorted reasons.
Also, "meeting" with some of my Ottawa SF Society friends via Zoom tonight after supper.
Also, getting laundry done this morning.
Also, newspaper pickup/shopping errands, because Point 2 of Timothy Snyder's Advice on Resisting/Defending Against Tyranny: defend institutions. In this case, Section 2 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms by supporting a free press.

Job-Hunting, News and Stuff
Jun. 2nd, 2020 09:19 amMy job search continues this morning. I'm running through the federal job boards, whether for the public service or for private employers. Also, the temp placement companies. You never know, right?
Yesterday, I also managed to get some practice time in with pen and pencil, and with Clip Studio Paint, on the illustration front. I have never been happy with my human anatomy structure, and probably never will be.
As I type this, I also listen to The Current on CBC Radio. Matt Galloway had...possibly better ideas of what sort of times he was going to be succeeding Anna Maria Tremonti as host and lead investigator of that current-affairs programme. I am even more convinced that he is the host that both the series and Canada need right now. Now, and for the foreseeable future. I am grateful for this.
My neighbourhood is as quiet as can be expected of a suburb of Ottawa. I've seen birds, squirrels, chipmunks and the occasional rabbit. Also insects...which I am learning to value more highly than I used to. Even those I consider most dangerous to me.
I am going to try to stay away from Facebook and Twitter today. At least, I want to avoid logging in to either of those services. As much as for activist purposes as for mental health maintenance or repair.

Public Washrooms
May. 15th, 2020 09:33 amWe need more of these. Warning: probably not for the easily disturbed.

Also, that photo of a freestanding public washroom in Portland, Oregon leaves me wondering what they were thinking of at the design phase. I guess I should read up on this:

This is what she left the current affairs show she founded for:

CBC RADIO: End of an Era at the Current
Jun. 20th, 2019 08:40 amI am now listening to Anna Maria Tremonti's last edition as host of The Current.
They intro'ed this live-aired edition at CBC Toronto with the Voice. Who hasn't been on the show to kick things off in about ten years.
First interviewee today: Rick Mercer...
I am glad to know that this series will continue, I am glad to see Anna Maria leave like this rather than some of the other ways it could have happened.
I am still saddened that the farewell still needs to be.
Thank you for your work getting this operation going!
To those still working on the Current, to those coming into the show's production team: thank you for this work, still in progress!

Mars Rover Names and Star Trek
Sep. 21st, 2018 10:22 amI was listening to a discussion of the Mars-rover Opportunity on CBC Radio's The Current while doing my cleaning project.
As a Star Trek fan: I'd be disappointed to not see the rover names represented in Starfleet's order of operations-type starship lists.
(Okay, maybe "Opportunity" would be one that the Ferengi merchant fleet would want an exclusive claim on...)

Some Random Notes
Jun. 17th, 2017 07:28 am1. I just finished reading Babylon's Ashes from The Expanse series of novels, so I'm mostly caught up on the prose version. Excepting the various short stories, of course. Yet to start watching the first season DVD set, though, and would like to watch at least the first two episodes before the weekend's over.
2. The plan today includes finally watching Wonder Woman at a movie theatre.
3. Coping with assorted aches and pains in a low-volume continuing way. Welcome to normal human aging, Dwight.
4. Stuff you might want to listen to:
Alan Alda on Q
Josh Freed on The Current about queues
Clifford V. Johnson, Ph. D. on science depictions in movies and TV, which I particularly recommend for the interview's Agent Carter connection...
