• Name a BAND (NOT a song, NOT a solo performer) that starts with the letter “R”.
• Please don’t Duck Duck Go one, just use your brain.
• I'll then give you a letter for you to REPOST (if you're willing to keep it going).

(I know: I'm doing this just after I posted a BNL/Chris Hadfield video link?)

Most of us have heard of "Internet Rule 34". The friendlister - who shall remain unnamed until such time as I have permission to supply that name - thought of this as a twist on the concept: if it exists, there's a conspiracy theory about it.

Should that not be a separate Internet Rule?

That aside, the person proposing the idea may be right.

To start December off properly, I answer an ultimatum of sorts from [livejournal.com profile] ms_danson thusly:

1. No comment.
2. None.
3. No, thankfully.
4. None. There are a few I should've considered seriously, though.
5. Never met him. And if I want to live beyond the end of this year, that's the answer I'm sticking to.
6. (A)Lead-based, (b)squirrel, (c)none of the above and therefore (d)Not Bob. No one but Bob can be Bob.
7. A toss-up between "Canadian Railroad Trilogy", "The Last Saskatchewan Pirate" and "Enterprising Young Men".
8. What minions?
9. I do not recognize this event on my calendar.
10. What doomsday device?

Comment to this post and I will pick five things I would like you to talk about. They might make sense or be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.

The list I was given by [livejournal.com profile] ms_danson is as follows:

Since [livejournal.com profile] lonemagpie spoke up...I've meet a few actors, although I doubt any of them would remember me at all. Most of the SF authors, comics creators I've met - some of whom are likely reading this in passing - that might qualify are a bit more accessible and tend to encourage either arm's-length contact or maintain an open channel so as to lessen the "Omigod" Factor of any direct contact. The latter of which seems to work pretty well.

Borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] ms_danson ...

There are all sorts of memes that ask for positive feedback towards the person posting them. (ie: "Tell me something you like about me.") Let's flip that around a bit.

Tell me something you like about yourself.

And if you like that idea you can do it yourself and find out why your friends list is awesome.

Not sure how to react to the revelation [livejournal.com profile] daytonward provided with this posting, in which he comments in passing on Jaws' upcoming 35th anniversary.

Let alone the surprise I got when I plugged "LOLShark" into Google for an image search.

Brrr.

Cars? Me?

Blame/praise [livejournal.com profile] fajrdrako for this: she succumbed to the LJ Writers Block meme, after all.

So...if I were inclined to finally go get my driver's license, what kind of car would I prefer to drive above all others?

Probably a Smart ForTwo or a Prius if I could possibly afford such a beast. Unless something closer to ecologically sound with similar or better performance levels were to hit the market by the time I was able to decide upon the subject.

Shoe leather and buses and the occasional train still manage to meet most of my travel support needs, though.

[livejournal.com profile] black13 has a good idea over at Panel and Pixel. Therefore, I am running with it here as a memory refresher/updater:

Stolen shamelessly from [livejournal.com profile] dvandom:

The first three people to ask for 'em gets sketches of any character. You may want to provide references if you're not sure I know the character, and if I've already drawn a finished version of the character you may want to pick someone else. If you wish to continue the meme, post this italicized bit in your own LJ.

1. Comment on this post.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Think of 5 fictional characters whose name starts with that letter and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.

[livejournal.com profile] mdg1 gave me the letter "G" in honour of [livejournal.com profile] ruckawriter, whose work we both enjoy reading.

So...

1. G.W. Bridge, Agent of SHIELD. Particularly since Matt Fraction set him upon the Punisher's trail over the last couple of years. I think we've learned more about G.W. as a person since the new Punisher War Journal title started than in all the years since Messrs. Liefeld and Nicieza introduced us to him.

2 and 3. Guardian of Alpha Flight. It should count as two people since Heather and James Hudson, that first couple of Marvel Universe Canadian superheroics, have used the alias over the years. And both still deserve better than they got in New Avengers: the Collective. Here's hoping they get it. Especially since it looks like Michael Pointer's determined to be his own man back in his hometown of North Pole, Alaska, since having been used as the unwilling murder weapon against the two of them in that story arc.

4. Garak, from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Yes, I know he's got a first name. He was introduced to us all as simply "Garak", and his first name has been so rarely used even by those closest to him, whether on TV or in the novels that have followed, much to my continuing delight. The man is unpredictable in ways that can be both reassuring and frightening all at once in the right situations.

5. Gotham City - a character in its own right in the Bat-franchise. I've already spoken at length on that.

a. Link to the person who tagged you. [livejournal.com profile] fajrdrako
b. Post the rules on your blog. Posted
c. Write six random things about yourself.

I just caught the tail end of today's instalment of Politics With Don Newman on CBC Newsworld. I was rather annoyed to see a certain fifteen-year-old(?) excuse for a movie exhumed and used to "remind" people why they shouldn't oppose Harper on the "McVety Clause" of C-10.

I just got my camera back from the repair shop today, and hope to use for urban exploration tomorrow if the weather holds. I've been hearing of something called Jane's Walks today, and it's piqued my curiosity.

The first three pop fiction characters I ever had an interest in were Charlie Brown, Popeye and Spider-Man. I was age four at the time.

I remember reading [livejournal.com profile] fajrdrako's letters to assorted comics editors when I was a lot younger than I'd prefer to admit and two provinces away.

I tried to take pictures of a raccoon in the back yard yesterday morning with my old film camera. I have no idea if the pictures will develop or if the raccoon's been blinded by the flash bulb.

There are three conventions I'd like to visit in Toronto this summer: the Paradise Comics Comicon, RCW 139 and FanExpo Toronto 2008. No idea if I'll be able to attend any of them.

d. Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.

Like [livejournal.com profile] fajrdrako unto myself, I pray in turn for forgiveness from these poor souls:

[livejournal.com profile] arcana_j, [livejournal.com profile] bunsen_h, [livejournal.com profile] gumprich, [livejournal.com profile] jelliottcoleman, [livejournal.com profile] paulpogue and [livejournal.com profile] realtegan.

e. Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment at their blog.

f. Let your tagger know when your entry is up.

Steve Roby comments on the proposed Defence of Religion Act expected to show up in the House of Commons here in Ottawa soon. Not my choice of phrasing, although I share some concerns of his on this matter.

Lee Barnett notes the potential pitfalls of a meme now in progress on LJ, the spirit of which I sympathize with for reasons personal and ethical. I also keep in mind something Alan Alda said whilst "in character" on The West Wing that leads me to sympathize with Lee's concerns.

To be blunt: it is too damn easy for a particularly patient, careful, and ruthless bigot to lie through their teeth or their keyboard.
