It's weird getting e-mails from others sharing my own name...
Example: one guy in Georgia having subscribed to alerts from the local Home Depot. Another two were authors, one writing science textbooks, another in US law enforcement history. Then there was the "private military contractor"...

Phil Plait does a write-up on a planet orbiting a tight-orbit binary star system. Of course, there's a deep-cut Star Wars comment in there...

TIC 172900988 is the simplest catalogue number on file for that star right now. Here are the others on file at SIMBAD:

TYC 2483-160-1
2MASS J08343881+3133147
Gaia DR1 709709089004925440
GSC 02483-00160
Gaia DR2 709709093301608448

Note: For Trekkers' purposes, it's 800 light-years away, viewed in the constellation Cancer from here on Earth. So I guess that puts it well past the Klingon holdings...?

Apparently, that's the case. Just looking around for confirmation/debunking.

Getting my bedding washed and dried in the meantime...

I recognize that logo on Lemont Brown's shirt in today's edition of Candorville.

It seems only right that a comic book shop should set up shop inside a school for cartoonists and animators.

I hope this partnership serves both organizations well for...preferably decades.

"What I've learned about myself is that there is no amount of time that can pass, there is no break that can happen. I just will never clean up the basement." - Mercer during an interview with Tom Power on Q, date currently unknown to me. Source: Sunday Edition essay by Michael Enright.

At least, it ought to be famous.

I doubt that "Mercer Street" is named for Rick Mercer...especially after reading Toronto Street Names by Leonard Wise and Allan Gould, specifically page 148. But maybe, given the proximity to the CBC Broadcast Centre where Rick's Report was made for 15 years, it ought to be renamed in his specific honour.

On The Sunday Edition this morning: "Now is the window of our discotheque!"

You go discover the context yourselves, okay?

I think that BBC goat video - of a story that's actually happening - is as close to a joke that I want to get today. Especially this year. If there's anything else really happening that I deem ought to be shared on the strength of its amusement value, I may well post that instead.

One example of the more amusing names we've given our O-Train cars:

...and yes, Hidden Figures was a Damn Fine Movie.

I was both educated and entertained as a direct consequence of watching _Hidden Figures_ tonight. It is my pleasure to note that, at Silver City Gloucester (as I still call it despite Cineplex and Scotiabank plastering the latter's name all over the building), the screening room in which I watched was filled almost to bursting. Maybe 10-15 seats left empty.

Two things about other matters whilst I further marshal my thoughts on that subject:

1. Mark Hamill's let the Trumpster loose again. Enjoy or not, as you will.

2. Frank Jacobs has noted "a masterclass in accidental nation-building" in the matter of San Escobar. Interesting, as a consequence of Poland facing similar issues as the USA, Hungary, the Philippines, and so on.

I laughed when I saw this page. Laughed, because I empathized with Gabby's reaction.

Hearing that CIA is now running a Twitter account: "We can neither confirm nor deny that this is our first tweet." Which tells me that whoever's crewing the account has a sense of humour. Hopefully, they'll be given some room to maneuver with that. Spy agency personnel who can laugh at themselves are a resource worth treasuring, yes?

(Nothing to do with the Canadian TV show of that ilk, but I've been wanting to put that userpic into action for a while now.)
