I recognize that logo on Lemont Brown's shirt in today's edition of Candorville.
RIP: Gene Reynolds
Feb. 5th, 2020 07:25 amHe was on the other side of the cameras of M*A*S*H from day one.
Yes, he had a long run. But, still...attention must be paid.

TREK/OBITS: Dorothy "D.C." Fontana
Dec. 5th, 2019 05:54 amSad news, and a day old already...but CBC brought interviews with her and David Gerrold about The Original Series' 50th anniversary out of storage for the occasion of her passing.

I think this is a very good thing, better-timed than we might now appreciate.

Maps and TV Fiction: One UK Artist's Foray
Feb. 7th, 2016 09:08 amFor this morning's entertainment, something I stumbled across with the help of the Evening Standard. I've seen episodes of only a near-literal handful of the shows referenced in this map, but it's a fascinating document in any case. I think I've seen similar maps for The Fugitive (original series), for SF&F-specific shows filmed across North America, and for TV shows and movies filmed in the Vancouver and Toronto regions as well.

Breakaway Plus 40
Sep. 13th, 2015 10:43 pmI am reminded of another anniversary of another fictional disaster today. One depicted 40 years ago on TV, about 24 years before it was depicted as doomed to happen.
I won't break out any celebratory beverages...but if you remember Space: 1999, you might keep what's left of the Alphans in your thoughts tonight.

RIP Jeff Rice
Aug. 5th, 2015 08:36 pmAs Mark Dawidziak quotes Arthur Miller: Attention must be paid. Due credit should be given.
Chris Carter paid attention and gave due credit. So did Joss Whedon. And others as well in more recent times.
And so we all shall. For Jeff Rice, creator of Carl Kolchak, author of The Kolchak Papers that begat The Night Stalker, is no more.

RIP James Garner
Jul. 20th, 2014 09:05 amI know that some of you here are old enough to remember Maverick. For me, it was The Rockford Files that introduced me to the man.
Thanks be for DVDs, and the tech to follow, huh?
Rest well, Mr. Garner. And thanks for everything.

A question of cruelty to characters
Feb. 16th, 2014 09:48 pmIs it wrong that, when I learned that Fitz' full first name is "Leopold", I immediately leaped to thinking of the orchestra conductor that Bugs Bunny impersonated in order to effect Giovanni Jones' doom in "Long-Haired Hare"?
(For some reason, I mixed up the doomed Mr. Jones with the conductor at first.)

CBC Music's Tom Allen gives us a bit of musical history...presented in a somewhat unorthodox yet still logical fashion. Thanks to
robertjsawyer via his Facebook postings for this one.

Prisoners of Gravity: Rescued at Last
Feb. 26th, 2011 05:48 pmMany thanks to
thebitterguy for pointing this out via Facebook earlier tonight!
To explain:
Back in the early 1990's, I learned of this little treasure on TVOntario put together by Rick Green, Mark Askwith and a bunch of other people called Prisoners of Gravity.
It was a show about science fiction, each instalment covering a different theme or sub-genre. Interviews with most of the names of the day, whether from novels, comics, TV...it was Space Channel before we actually had Space Channel on the cable dials of Canada.
When it went off the air for the last time, word got out that legal issues of one sort or another would likely do a "WKRP"-style number on hopes of ever seeing it again within the law.
Looks like TVO won the good fight, people:

Go. Enjoy.

This guy built a large chunk of my TV fun in younger days.
black13 wrote what I consider a very good obituary for him. I recommend that you go read it here.
