I am listening to All In a Day on CBC Radio One, and Alan Neal is fielding questions from kids about Christmas. One about what do reindeer enjoy games-wise got pivoted to SF writer Julie Czerneda - turns out she's also a biologist! - and Julie just improvised an answer about how antlers can be repurposed as hockey sticks!

(Yes, Julie and I chat on occasion at bookstores, at Can-Con events, and so on.)

Petra Meyer came up with this list the other day. You might have preferences of your own. Some of you, I see, have works included in this list, and I offer congratulations upon that inclusion!

Not sure how many of these I've been able to read yet, but that is a quest for another day.

Sad, but necessary, I think. If things get better faster than we expect, I imagine that solutions to take advantage will be found. In the meantime...

So it was good to finally get this through my local independent bookstore today.

I am reminded of another anniversary of another fictional disaster today. One depicted 40 years ago on TV, about 24 years before it was depicted as doomed to happen.

I won't break out any celebratory beverages...but if you remember Space: 1999, you might keep what's left of the Alphans in your thoughts tonight.

In between pages and panels being pencilled and inked, I've managed to make the following progress on my "want to read" list:

  • The Shadow of Saganami is officially done. Heavy on the technobabble and political exposition, but then, that's part of the charm of the Honorverse novels, isn't it?

  • Gail Bowen's The Last Good Day is about halfway done.

The other three I mentioned are still on hold as I mentioned in that earlier post. There's a couple of other non-fiction works I should probably mention, but they're both books on HTML coding.

More sooner than later...
