(no subject)
Nov. 1st, 2020 06:48 amSo on November 1st, we've "fallen back" re: our clocks in Ontario. I find I am less thrilled with this twice-a-year ritual as the years go by. I woke up at what felt like the usual time to find it was "earlier" than my body and the CPAP machine were willing to admit to.
Two more days, and we'll make some further progress at discovering what kind of future most Americans want for themselves and their country as a whole. And we'll find out what the Mar-A-Lago Malefactor is willing to do to inflict a future he prefers over the objections of the rest of the United States as well, I suppose. We already knew that he considers Mafia dons and dictators to be his role models, just the way his father raised him.
Some of you remarked about my choice of showing you the influential cameras of my life. This was a consequence of my culling project. I have to downsize somewhat because of the changes I currently expect in my housing situation in the weeks, months, maybe years to come. And so, there are attacks of nostalgia my brain is suffering.
Meanwhile, a time of Pandemic does look like the worst possible time to downsize, doesn't it?
At least I seem to be finding time to sketch and write again, despite everything else going on.
Yes, I'm still looking for work. Job alerts subscribed via the federal Job Bank, Workopolis, Jobilico, Indeed, Carleton U, CHEO, several other federal agencies and private firms...
More later.

FLICKR: My first two digital cameras
Oct. 28th, 2020 03:15 pmI still have them. The first is the A70, the second is the S5 IS. I currently use a Rebel T5 EOS, including for this picture. I'd need to check if my stockpile of rechargeable batteries is still up to the challenge of supporting them.
Additional note: I used Air Miles to get that T5. Took me only ten years, I think!

Some Other Stuff
Oct. 2nd, 2020 09:02 pmThree jobs applied for today. Tried for a fourth, but couldn't log into the website properly for that company. Still waiting for the password reset e-mail half an hour later.
Oh, I might be looking for a new place for me and my personal library to live starting next January.
"Might?" Probably will be. Long story, not all of it mine to share. Not right now, anyway. Not going to count on lottery money showing up to save anyone's day, let alone mine. But, yeah, this adds a little urgency for unloading some of my collections.

Books: A small cataloguing milestone
Feb. 15th, 2016 08:43 amWith the help of Delicious Library v. 2.8.5, I've been slowly cataloguing my personal library's contents. Very slowly.
Reached a minor milestone this morning: book # 500 was catalogued: The Microphone Wars - A History of Triumph and Betrayal at the CBC by Knowlton Nash.
The collection doesn't and won't stop at that point, of course. But it seemed worth some small attention.

Re-reading EVERY comic?
Dec. 31st, 2012 08:25 pmIt's an ambitious project.
comicsworthread alerted me to something that
raferroberts has announced over at Tumblr that he's getting ready to start in the new year: re-reading every comic he owns.
It's ambitious of him. I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to match him, even should he fail. My collection, irrationally gathered as it's been over the decades, is far more than I can hope to handle. I should really consider a culling for any number of reasons, but it's going to be a while before I can begin to figure out how to manage it. And because I bought it all in order to read it, and some of it well before I even considered the issues of re-saleability...well, I'm not likely to get a lot for most of it should I ever sell it off.
At any rate, it's a reminder to get my other library sectors properly catalogued as best I can.
One more thing to work on in 2013.

The Library of Dwight Williams - April 2012, a set on Flickr.
Recently, I had to clear out the library room in order to get some repainting done. Now that that's over, the library's slowly been put back into place, one shelf at a time, one box of comics or magazines at a time.
Not all the current contents are shown in these photos, and as ever the contents are perpetually subject to change. What these photo files are is a "snapshot" of a particular point in my reading life.
One thing for sure: physical books are not leaving my life any time soon.
(And if you see some of your own work here, feel free to point it out.)
