RIP: Mira Furlan and Hank Aaron
Jan. 22nd, 2021 12:10 pmI only saw Mrs. Furlan in person once, at San Diego, just as Babylon 5 was getting going. And that, from across a standing-room only hall. Her work on-screen was nonetheless stellar, in the best sense, in the role of Delenn.
I never got to see Mr. Aaron, but I read the Peanuts strip with Snoopy standing in for Mr. Aaron, taking his own share of hate mail as a fictional beagle on his own quest to break Babe Ruth's record, and later learned the fuller story. Mr. Schulz was clearly a fan of Mr. Aaron, from what I saw in print.
Two people worthy of respect. Now both gone.

Schulzian Anniversaries
Oct. 2nd, 2016 08:52 amReminders went out that today is the anniversary of the first published strip in Charles Schulz' comic strip Peanuts.
I find myself in want of a root beer right now.
(Also, wishing I could've thanked Mr. Schulz directly for his works.)
More on other topics as the day progresses, hopefully...

Doctor Snoopy
Jun. 20th, 2014 08:24 pmAs I say to Mr. Hines directly in the original post's comments: I would object to specifying Snoopy as an incarnation of the Doctor. Otherwise, the theory as presented is entertainingly sound.
For your amusement, then...

Proposal: Snoopy is actually a Time Lord. Probably the Doctor.
Evidence:
- Snoopy was first sighted on Earth in October of 1950, and was around for far longer than any known beagle. Also, his appearance changed over time. (But he’s always been a white male!)
- His dog house is canonically bigger on the inside.
- And it flies. (Though it doesn’t always take him where he intended to go.)
- He is known to have traveled in space.
- He has a companion, one he understands and communicates with despite their different languages. (TARDIS translation circuit?)
- He owned a Van Gogh. (The link between Van Gogh and the Doctor has been well-established.)
- He’s been known to wear bow ties.
Conclusion: Time Lord!

Getting Used to It
Dec. 18th, 2010 09:03 pmJohn Gushue found a bit of Charles Schulz' wisdom recently. Go have a look.
Not sure that I've mastered that secret yet myself.

We lost the Voice of Snoopy.
Early details here.
I expect a more detailed obit to appear in several locations across the Web over the days ahead.
