You might have heard of Mr. de Adder. He's the cartoonist who got blacklisted by every major newspaper in New Brunswick because every major newspaper in New Brunswick is owned by the Irving family oligarchy and they're falling in with the Trump.

Anyway, the Friends of Canadian Broadcasting decided to throw in with de Adder as a consequence of that. Here's their opinion of his best work for this year.

Guessing that he's not a fan of Facebook either, although it does help some of his fans connect with him.

Sometimes I get this way at movies...or even with a TV show. Thanks, XKCD!

Is it wrong that, when I learned that Fitz' full first name is "Leopold", I immediately leaped to thinking of the orchestra conductor that Bugs Bunny impersonated in order to effect Giovanni Jones' doom in "Long-Haired Hare"?

(For some reason, I mixed up the doomed Mr. Jones with the conductor at first.)

So...found this after getting home from downtown errands.

You suppose someone's already auditioning to be the voices of the XKCD characters?

While we're on the subject of people with issues preventing prosperity on large scales...

Kevin Smith and Paul Dini - occasionally known on LJ as [livejournal.com profile] kingofbreakfast - aren't the ones with the attitude problem here, I suspect. The problems under discussion in the quoted interview at the other end were likely at the root of the latter's most recent LJ post.

Paul, my sympathies to you on these problems...and my thanks for the good work you've done on other fronts thus far.

XKCD on the state of the exoplanet hunt:

To everyone who helped us figure out this much of the neighbourhood to date: thank you, one and all, from astronomers to janitors.

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ms_danson for this.

It took me a week to get around to watching.

Worth the wait.

...juggling a number of things including an early end of contract on the day-job. Just too darned efficient for our own good these days, apparently, and that's all I'm going to say on that topic for now.

Other items of interest?

Jim Henshaw proposes an alternative strategy for protestors interested in making things inconvenient for the G8/G20 crowd. It has a potential amusement value for this audience member, so long as the property damage and financial costs remain low.

Denis McGrath suggests that things might actually getting better in terms of getting more CanCon drama and comedy on our private networks' TV screens. I'd suggest keeping their corporate feet to the fire a little while, just so they don't backslide on this stuff. We can't let them keep on dropping opportunities in the way they did with FlashForward and Bones. Both of those started as novels written by our neighbours.

(Yes, I know Kathy Reichs does the regular cross-border hop in both directions, mainly because her day-job forensic archeology expertise is somewhat rare in the world right now.)

In case anyone's wondering if Ottawa's an animation skills hub, the answer's still "yes". Some of our talent even generates a bit of controversy on occasion, judging by the recent Looney Tunes flap. I'm hoping to get a look at Miss Bortuski's work to judge for myself and get back to you.

More in a bit...

Something [livejournal.com profile] budgie_uk mentioned recently got me thinking...and it got me this result:

I have [livejournal.com profile] vonandmoggy to thank for this thought tonight.

I speak of "the Brain" as in Pinky and the Brain here. I think Starbuck was given a little bit of the Brain's attitude...at least in terms of her dialogue.

Consider that twice she's asked this question in "Lay Down Your Burdens II":

"What do you want to do?"

Twice she gives this answer:

"The same thing we always do: fight them until we can't."

I can't be alone in this impression, can I?
