Some years back, I was in the UK, and they'd found out that during one of the Anglo-Dutch Wars, the Dutch had seized a piece of land in the UK (might have just been England at the time). It was common to do that, either symbolically, or to hold it for ransom. Centuries later, everyone realized that they had never officially given it back, and had a ceremony doing so.
