In addition to the federal election in Canada tomorrow, it came to my notice today that Mary Brown's Chicken - a competitor to KFC and Popeyes Louisiana Chicken HQed in Newfoundland and Labrador - is promoting tomorrow as National Superhero Day.

Apparently, there's a promotional arrangement with Marvel regarding the new Daredevil series on Disney+.

You'd think that, for a fast food chain based in Canada, they could work up an Alpha Flight project, right?

The Ottawa Comic Jam, an informal gathering of cartoonists and animators - from amateur to professional - has been meeting at this restaurant on Somerset near Bronson for years. Maybe a decade, I think.

Now, this, an image taken by one Fanis Grammenos:

Twice a victim - adaptation and Corona-virus

To the photographer, the building is a victim of "adaptation". I was a beneficiary of that adaptation, as a regular visitor/customer and a local artist trying to just...do art. Somehow.

But the Shanghai is capable of providing take-out and delivery service. Or, was. But there's still hope, and an explanation in some detail...at this weblog entry:

I spent more than a few Fridays (when I was between jobs) and Sundays (whether I had one or not) at Patty Boland Pub in the ByWard Market. Most of those Sundays were because of meetings of ByMUG, which is still an ongoing concern for users of Apple gear across Ottawa, thankfully. Patty's in the Market is no more, sadly.

A Good Place in the Market

I think this is going to be the first nerd-targeted bar/tavern in Ottawa-Gatineau. Am I wrong? They'll be right next door to this store.

...as I've not yet visited. Is its' interior anything akin to these establishments?

I know that the House of Targ has a video/pinball-game focus as well as being the only place in town that has perogies as their Prime Food Staple...

I tried ordering dinner from them tonight. Number's out of service. Twitter account's still there, albeit quiet for half a month and capped off by a tweet from Ottawa City Councillor Bob Monette mourning the end of the restaurant.

What HAPPENED?

Doing a bit of shilling for my [livejournal.com profile] spacing_ottawa friends here.

Seems that during his prairie travels these past few months, my good editor Evan Thornton came across this little operation under the roof of the Winnipeg Free Press.

Here in Ottawa, the Presse Café under the roof of the CBC Ottawa Broadcast Centre comes close to matching it in terms of atmosphere, although there's enough wi-fi-equipped competition that perhaps it doesn't get used to the extent that it could be. Additionally, Evan notes some other factors in play that I didn't think of.

I wonder, though...CBC could have something really useful there.

And wondering what's happened to the Cathay Chinese Restaurant on Albert Street. I read a report on Flickr last night that suggests a shutdown. Other stuff I heard via National Capital Freenet suggests they packed up and moved to the Chinatown area, south and west of their old Centretown digs.

(Ten hours, 33 mins. of daylight today.)
