Of course, I haven't really rested today. The following things got done today:

- vacuumed two floors of the house
- picked out stars to host a half-dozen or so planets on that Edge of Midnight map project
- did two walking/shopping trips mainly for exercise
- practiced a bit more for Clip Studio Paint via the Cintiq tablet/monitor
- uploaded a scan of a sketch I drew for my Amateur Press Alliance back in 2006 to various social media outlets for the sake of self-promotion and because of Batman Day
- cleaned up some of my kitchen mess
- applied for another job
- cleaned my CPAP gear, as I need to do each weekend
- wrote a note of comment to the Ottawa Board of Health about protection measures against SARS-CoV-2 and other contagions of note and worry

I'd like to get a new "office/studio" chair, but barring some surprise via trashnothing.com, that's probably not going to happen soon. The one I use currently leans a bit to my right because of years of my leaning to that side when I sit down in it. Also, it deflates an inch after a certain amount of time sitting down.

Of course, I'm going to draw that guy for this prompt. I did co-write a travel guide about his hometown back in 2000.

At least, that seems to be the line DC's promoting today.

Got a fun Bat-related story, anyone?

For myself...my first real reading of his work as a writer was in Marvel's Daredevil and Iron Man. He was the one who made Jim Rhodes as Iron Man/War Machine possible. And when he went back to DC to edit the Bat-books and write his version of The Question...well...

This is going to hurt for a while.

This may be a mildly amusing error, and no more than that. In today's hardcopy edition of the Globe and Mail, that storied newspaper reminds us that On This Date, Detective Comics # 27, featuring the first appearance of the Batman was allegedly released to the public. The decades-long tendency of comics publishers to release issues two months ahead of the published cover date has apparently not occurred to the people handling that that item on page A2.

Therefore, a possibly amusing error.

One of the other things I'm doing to get my skills back to speed has been practicing with Clip Studio Paint (formerly Manga Studio). One such project was a response to all those damned meme-pix of Batman slapping Robin. I hate seeing that image being repeated over and over, and for all the problems of swapping in the Joker for Robin that I'm sure are obvious...why not one of the villains instead of Bruce's first-adopted?Violent art under the cut )

Clearly, as a colourist, I am never going to be in Laura Martin's league.

Just two minutes after logging into Facebook, I stumble into the news.

Norm's gone.

Three years after that damn stroke. The consequences of which never left him be.

At 720 PM: Damn. Just found out that I missed out on the (successful) launch of TESS. More exoplanet-hunting about to get underway!

At 830 PM: Noting also: this is Bat Appreciation Day *and* National Canadian Film Day.

Double feature of your favourite Bat-movie and the Canadian film of your choice?

Laundry's done, and I'm just taking in the news and other chatter right now. Not sure I have enough brain for much else this afternoon.

Noting, however, the passing of Adam West. His version of the Batman was among the earliest I knew of. He was scheduled to visit Ottawa-Gatineau back in May of 2017 for a local convention, but cancelled at almost the last minute. I suppose we now know why that cancellation happened. Sad news about a man who entertained so many over the decades.

Mr. Scheurer is one of the people who worked on designs for BvS. Apparently, he had a big hand in the look and feel of the "Snyderverse" version of Gotham City.

You might want to have a look.

Thanks to io9.com for the pointer.

Note to Warner Bros.: If you're going to put "visitgothamcity.com" on the license plates of Gothamites' cars, trucks, buses, etc. in your movies, maybe it might be a good thing to actually have a site for people to visit using that URL?

I saw it tonight.

Comments in detail... )

There.

I'm probably going to do another post later on, dealing with more trivia-minded issues...

Somewhat disappointed that Ottawa didn't get the trophy this go-round. But anyway...a weird thought about comic book characters and music.

One of my favourite tunes from the 1980's was Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight", popularized by Miami Vice in its pilot episode. I make no apologies for that admission about my musical tastes. Likewise my enjoyment of Mike W. Barr, Alan Davis and Todd McFarlane's work on Batman: Year Two, continuity gaffes and all. I mean, really? Jim Gordon, just promoted to Captain at the end of Year One, getting that much further up the ladder off-camera in a matter of - at most - a handful of months? No.

But that was then, a couple of iterations of DCU continuity and a quarter-century ago.

Anyway.

Anyway...getting back to music. There was this episode of Justice League back in 2004 - the cartoon series - where Circe turned Wonder Woman into a pig. "This Little Piggy", written by [livejournal.com profile] kingofbreakfast. And we got to hear Kevin Conroy, then the voice of the Batman belt out one of the better jazz standards in order to save the day.

Wondering - not for the first time - how a Conroy cover of "In the Air Tonight" would sound. It seems apropos for any number of reasons.

Okay, this might be a mistake. But I made the promise to set this up last night after seeing the movie, and I'd better deliver.

So. I've been seeing political arguments over the subtext of this film for a few weeks now. Not sure that I agree with any of them, but let's see if we can have a civil debate on the subject.

Naturally, my own biased self will have the last word on what constitutes "civil", seeing as it's my virtual "house".

Found out about this chart earlier today:

The basic design really has survived a lot over the decades, hasn't it?

Latest Batman and Robin instalment was written by [livejournal.com profile] paulcornell2.

Plot point centres on an invitation to a "night wedding", with the closing challenge to discover the truth about the claim that "something is missing".

And I immediately connect to one of the tunes from The Art of Noise album, Reconstructed for Your Listening Pleasure and the spoken-word lyrics therein.

Paul, would you have been a fan of that band at any point?
