Okay, I think I've got my short- and long-form "base" resumés for office work updated. I'm checking back with my most recent client about specific software-used details before I start sending copies to the various temp agencies and other prospective employers.

Also, I need to make time today for illustration/design practice with the Cintiq. Absolutely essential that I do this every day. I will continue to apply for "standard" office jobs - records management, information analyst, testing analyst, data entry, and so on - but if I mean to apply for graphic design and illustration work as well - I have to make as much time as possible to practice the relevant skills with the software I currently have available to me. This is vital, too.

Got started last night. Expecting to make time for more practice today.

First Work in Progress With Cintiq and Affinity Photo

Did some sketching with Cintiq and Affinity Photo today. Will post the work in progress tomorrow.

I found a metal stand at Canada Computers that fits both the desk and the budget and the iMac sits properly atop it. Lines of sight are good for both iMac screen and Cintiq now!

Tomorrow, of course, the job search resumes in earnest. But for now? I feel okay.

I got the Cintiq hooked up to my iMac.

One more thing I need to do for this to work well: I need to find something - preferably not a book - to elevate the iMac on my desk so that I can fully view both screens at the office/studio workstation in the basement. The HP external monitor's going to go unused for a while, I think.

I start up my cell phone this morning, and get this same message, over and over: "Unfortunately, Google Play services have stopped". Pressing "OK" avails me no relief from seeing the message again in 1-2 seconds. Neither does "Report", as the repetition of the message keeps me from filing a report about it.

Is my cell phone effectively "bricked"?

It was functioning properly last night when I shut it off to go to bed.

On top of everything else going in the worlds right now...

Hoping I picked the right driver version for the Cintiq to download. Since I'm doing day-job work at the same desk I expect to use the Cintiq with, it's going to be a few more days before I can test it.

Another week of paid work coming to a close. Not done with the contract yet. Also, a question.

I just got my second-hand Wacom Cintiq 22HD Touch on Monday. The plan: plugging it into the iMac 21.5" (Late 2009) and putting it to work on illustration and graphic design projects.

Wrinkles: I have an HP Z24nf G2 external monitor that I went to a lot of trouble to get enough Air Miles for last year and it's still useful so I want to keep using it. I only have one Mini DisplayPort output port with support for DVI, VGA, and dual-link DVI (adapters sold separately). I have an adapter that will let me plug the Cintiq into the iMac.

"Dual-link DVI adapters" are a thing?

If so, I think I want one.

I finally got my second-hand Cintiq this morning via UPS. Been waiting ages for the chance to get one, and thanks to a friend in Florida, I got lucky this month.

Observation: that shipping box is BIG.

Gonna have to wait for the weekend to start learning to work with it. Also, need to re-rig my basement desk to make room for it.

Good night.

Any recommendations for "generic" styluses for use with tablets of multiple origins?

On Saturday, one of the places I visited was Staples on Innes at Tenth Line. Some of the products I saw on offer were "generic", house-branded styluses.

I was hoping some of you might have actually tried such devices with whatever tablets you make use of.

This could further inconvenience our own respective lives:

On the other hand, we've got global organized pro-fascist terrorism to stomp into the ground.

The printer head cleaning seems to have worked to a point. I've replaced the Cyan cartridge, since that finally exhausted its ink supply. Eventually, I'm going to have to test it to be sure of whatever fixes I've made so far.

Oh, the tablet computer from Air Miles arrived today. I'm letting it warm up to room temperature before I test it out because I walked it home from the post office.

One month into the current contract. Two months to go, give or take a week.

Hoping you're okay...

Oh, by the way, the printer seems to be "healthy" again this morning. Good news, and I hope it lasts.

I just tried to print off a weather forecast from Environment Canada.

Nothing. There's ink in the cartridges, but none on the pages.

I can't deal with it right now. It'll have to wait until after work, therapy and dinner.

The shoulder pain from Sunday's vaccination booster went away yesterday. I wasn't thrilled with having that ache renew with each keystroke at my current day job, but that's over now.

(Two more months on this contract, FYI.)

Getting a tablet computer through Air Miles points. Seems like a good idea at this point for several reasons.

Not a fan of the extreme cold situation in Ottawa-Gatineau right now this morning.

Didn't win the lottery last night. *sigh*

More later...

1. Reading about this "Freedom Rally" crap on Twitter. Apparently, there were pro-fascist/anti-vaccination "rallies" in major cities across Canada today, including Ottawa because national capital city, right?

I have no respect for these people. None.

More detail...I was on Elgin Street picking up stuff this morning, and spotted someone hauling a white-on-black version of the Gadsden flag heading north, probably towards Parliament Hill.

WTH, guy?

2. My printer refusing to print out my provincial confirmation paperwork for tomorrow's booster appointment.

Well, remember I was talking about Star Trek last posting?

Seems I've missed recording everything from the fourth episode of Prodigy onwards. So I can't watch "Time Amok" - aired last night - as I planned. No, I'm not sure about my access to Crave here.

Counter-programming.

I'm a Star Trek fan. I watch Coroner.

So CTV Sci-Fi and CBC TV have me in conflict with myself and since I'm not sure of the limits of the household PVR, I'm worried about how it's going to handle multiple shows I want to keep watching. All on the same night, different channels, my paranoid self is expecting.

Privileged peoples' problems, right?

I got my debit card PIN problem fixed up at the bank. (Sadly, this is an issue that has to be fixed in person, one of the few banking issues that has to be fixed that way.)

I used some Christmas gift-money to buy a personal DVD copy of Black Widow.

There was reassurance that my local comics dealer is still operational, and was able to reassure the staff that I have not forgotten my obligations to them. More pointedly, that I anticipate starting to get caught up on my reading next weekend because payday timing.

The local custom-t-shirt printer can work with PNG files I bring for them, and that they can print on 3XL t-shirts.

The British mystery novels that inspired the CBC TV series Coroner are still in print as of two years ago, and available through local booksellers.

It may be possible for me to finally get a used Wacom Cintiq without breaking myself financially. More on this anon, I hope.

New battery for the cell-phone, finally. Been worrying about the battery I bought with it for a few weeks after four or five years. Didn't think the shop I bought the new battery from would have it in stock yet.
