Following up a bit on local comics creators and suchlike.

One friendly acquaintance of mine from the long-dissolved Orléans Comic Jam sessions, Dominic Bercier, has a Kickstarter fundraiser/project going at the moment. Timing might be tight for you if you're interested, I understand that...

Anyway, here's the link.

Two more systems nailed down. Maybe three. Not sure right now.

I'll try to remember to upload an update to Flickr or DeviantArt or ArtStation tomorrow morning, if nothing goes awry.

Good thing that I have fresh(er) material to roll out on Twitter today!

Yes, you've seen those here and on Flickr and/or DeviantArt. There's places where those services' audiences don't overlap, right?

I got the Cintiq hooked up to my iMac.

One more thing I need to do for this to work well: I need to find something - preferably not a book - to elevate the iMac on my desk so that I can fully view both screens at the office/studio workstation in the basement. The HP external monitor's going to go unused for a while, I think.

Thanks to [personal profile] andrewducker for pointing out something someone else said:

These kinds of second- and third-hand referrals really are of value. Sometimes, more so than I expect. And I need this particular reminder.

So...

...today was Portfolio Day according to a bunch of people on Twitter?

1. Artists are workers. Right?

2. Our first vaccine-candidate approval, this week. What next?

3. Freeland brings the clarity. If we can't have an NDP-Green coalition, then this is a good thing that she's in her present job until then.

4. Have any of you been listening to Ideas this week? They're replaying the 1989 Massey Lectures with Ursula Franklin.

...and I should log that in the job search diary in the morning.

"Practice time - Clip Studio Paint".

Also:

"Video tutorial re: Clip Studio Paint on YouTube". Some artists are livestreaming stuff to fundraise.

More tomorrow.

Sleep now, hopefully.

Checking job boards. Yes, that's possibly an exercise in frustration to some extent right now. But I still feel required to do it.

Also, for fun and skills preservation, I'm fiddling with my pencil/ink sketchbook right now. I might upload some of the consequences to Flickr later in the day, or maybe tomorrow.

Don't expect me to post during Wednesday afternoon. I've got skills-testing that time period, so I'll have to focus on that exam.

Snow is falling here in Ottawa as I type this entry. Not much snow is falling, but it's steady in its pacing.

More as it comes to mind...

Inspired by the webcomic Questionable Content...and I'm fairly certain that I'm not the first to have this thought: such people - May and Bubbles and the like from said webcomic, Data and so on from Star Trek, the Vision at Marvel, etc. - could have their own versions of graphic design software loaded up in their systems as either a core component or an add-on.

Do you think they'd prefer Inkscape? Or something else? I'd imagine it'll vary from character to character.

I hope I'm not breaking the rules by doing this, but I need to do some more outreach, particularly by making note of a "portfolio" of sorts hiding in my Flickr sets:

https://secure.flickr.com/photos/dwight_ew/sets/72157614621082522/

For map designs:

https://secure.flickr.com/photos/dwight_ew/sets/72157630449497178/

More general computer-assisted design work (with some duplication from the first two sets):

I'm linking to this to show some range of skills available, if anyone here needs any extra help with projects that aren't particularly time-sensitive between now and the end of May. It's my hope that after the end of May, I can include those time-sensitive projects as well.

Hoping this is useful to at least one of you reading this LJ...

...I'm still actively looking for a day-job.

Also, willing and available for art commissions.

Hoping to discuss the latter in particular in further detail later in the day...

Started drawing another cover composition tonight. I'm out of practice, and I'm tired. So it's going to take longer than I'd like.

But, back to drawing again, right?

More on this later.

...because I've got dental bills to pay down and gifts to buy!

You've seen some of my pencil sketches and ink work if you've looked at the Flickr and Picasa galleries linked over on your right. I'm offering a chance to commission an original sketch!

Name your character or portrait subject. Penciled or inked, your choice. Price will be dependent on which medium and what size you want the sketch drawn on! Sketch card, 8.5 x 11, 9 x 12, and 11 x 17 are all options here.

How about it, people? Help me out here?

Contact me at "williams(dot)dwight(at-symbol)gmail(dot)com" with the subject header "Commissions", and let's get talking!
