Listening to this programme as I type this entry. Per the title on the CBC page:

Maaza Mengiste on confronting the past without 'smoothing out the rough edges of history'
The writer turns to archival photography to explore how historical narratives are created

I think I'm going to the Ottawa edition starting at our local City Hall this morning. If I can get my housechores done fast enough. Which means no more posting here this AM. If I understand the Facebook event posting correctly, this is part of the process of setting up for another event in March.

See you later, I expect.

I went and participated. Stood there for the two hours or so, and then marched when the word went out. Mostly, I kept silent because they needed the numbers to show up, but mine isn't among the voices that must be heard at such times as those.

I ached from the waistline to the arches of my feet because my own body is not what it was when I was younger. But again, I was not there for my comfort. Not for that event, not for that process.

I took pictures with my camera-phone, and I am conflicted as to whether I should post any of them anywhere on the Net right now. I did last year, but was persuaded to remove them out of concern for the safety of other participants.

A debate of sorts in this list, and one worth undertaking:

Thanks to Johanna Draper-Carlson for the pointer to that list! I'll be interested to see how the voting and debate plays out...

Forget about Pepper Potts, no matter how well she's being written by Matt Fraction for Marvel Comics right now.

As of today, the title for this year goes to Tammy Sexton of Harleton, Alabama.

Read and be amazed.

That crap like this continues in this day and age...when we're still in Afghanistan to help the Afghani people secure all of their human rights(among other genuine reasons and hidden rationales)...dammit. This is the kind of crap that makes us look like hypocrites.

Complete hypocrites.

This cannot stand.

To those who killed Sitara Achakzai in Kandahar today, I tell you this:

You've made a martyr of her. Surely you must understand this by now?

The latest from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, courtesy of BBC Web News.

[livejournal.com profile] ruckawriter calls it a proof that Hannah Arendt was right about the banality of evil. [livejournal.com profile] kadymae is simply in a "nuclear" rage over it.

Neither of them are wrong.

"And we shall dare to be angry about the things that are truly evil."
- Leslie Charteris

Let us dare.

Update: The lady's lawyer - already suffering for his part in defending her - continues to dare greatly himself.
