So I get to wake up today
Feb. 24th, 2022 06:53 amThus are those two closing questions from last night are answered.
Ukrainians and Russians alike - some of whom are still going to be able to read this, depending on when and where they access the Internet from - have no such guarantees right now.
I'll probably try to discuss other stuff that also still matters to me later tonight. But I'm not going to be very enthusiastic about it.

Word from multiple news services is that Putin announced "denazification" operations.
As if he wasn't probably backing the Azov Battalion all along to muddy the waters.
NBC News is reporting bombing of Kyiv and we have Twitter accounts of explosions over Kharkiv.
Dammit.
So this is how I get to go to bed tonight. Do I get to wake up tomorrow?
Or will Putin have an answer for Justin Trudeau's refusal to be overthrown this past week overnight?

I suppose we should have expected this reaction from "Tsar" Vladimir?

Basically, it looks like Putin and Lukashenko have decided that it's time the rest of humanity was forced to rewrite the 1944 Chicago Convention on civil aviation on their terms. I think they're going to need a time-out session, don't you?

I think we have a problem here with this deal.
I'm annoyed that I missed or forgot to notice the implications of it for the better part of a year. Because Thomson Reuters owns the Globe and Mail as well, I think I'm going to have to stop buying that newspaper, regardless of what I think of the people working there. Am I wrong to believe that a realistic prospect?

I hope we're "interfering" in this mess. Sounds like tbe bigots in Russia have the upper hand at the moment, and some "interference" might indeed be holier than the bigots want believed.
Also, there's a certain amount of getting even for the nightmares some of their intelligence officers and other figures of influence have inflicted upon the rest of the human race these last few years. Their LGBTQ community deserves a bit more freedom from fear.

Back to the job search, and I'll probably be posting opinions on a few other things as the day goes on.

May. 28th, 2020 07:24 pmWhat Putin and Trump are in place to try to ensure that we don't-can't-won't do in time to save ourselves:
http://gwynnedyer.com/2020/what-coronavirus-teaches-us-about-climate-change/
We still need to leave this world fit to live on, no matter what those two and their accomplices want. And like Jay Rosen said about journalism the other day, we won't be able to keep from being swept up and away by their agenda without being clear as to what our own agenda is.

RUSSIA: Notes for Reference
Apr. 12th, 2020 09:02 pmAgain, be careful with those links on the pages I'm linking to. Not because the people running those sites are all hostile - I suspect that's not the case - but hostile parties may be watching who's running the other sites referred to.

RUSSIA: One More Reminder...
Mar. 2nd, 2020 06:28 pm...of why I left Livejournal back in 2017.
The new terms of service once the server farms were moved from San Francisco to Moskva required - to my understanding - that users conduct themselves on LJ as if they lived in Russia.
Well, Vladimir Putin and his cronies have put forth another reminder of what that means, and why I want nothing to do with such practices: a new batch of constitutional amendments.
Details here in this article by Andrew Roth for The Guardian:

PUTIN v. USA: Troll Farms
Jan. 20th, 2020 03:15 pmPutin and company are a (vampiric) pain in the necks of the Russian, American, British and Canadian peoples. Among those of other countries/nations as well. This is another part of the list of reasons why.

A lot of us remember reading the Barlow manifesto on cyberspace.
I'm certain that Vladimir Putin must have read a Russian translation of that document at some point between 1996 and now and decided the whole thing was blasphemous from the word "Пойти"(1). Well, now his quest to rebuke Barlow has taken another lurching step forward to its stated goal of a "sovereign Internet". Some of the details can be found care of the BBC:
https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-50902496
They look at mainland China's "Great Firewall" as a aspirational role model, of course. In error...of course. It's one more facet of Putin's quest to remake the rest of humanity in the image of his choosing, right along with the impositions of Trump and Brexit manipulations (among others suspected with various degrees of certainty). It will have to be dealt with, preferably to his dissatisfaction and to the whole world's betterment.
I don't pretend to the needed expertise to help with this project, though.
