[personal profile] siderea has some thoughts on this subject, a first posting in what may be a triptych:

1. So there's this café on Somerset West that I've visited once and would like to revisit at some point after things re-settle enough and I have a steady day-job again. Apt613 published a profile on their reopening process that got my attention.

2. Some opinions held by neighbours across the city to consider re: how to finance...police or public safety or whatever we end up calling the service from now on. And to what ends.

3. Photography as Food Bank fundraiser during the Time of Pandemic.

4. The Four-Day Work Week may be a reality for more people from now on. Taylor Blewett at Postmedia Ottawa (AKA the Ottawa Citizen) reports on one company's leaning into that direction. I suspect it's not going to be a thing every employer can or should do, but it might be helpful in some ways.

5. Yes, I'm still job-hunting. And doing laundry. More later.

And it occurs to me in the midst of my angst and sturm und drang and other crap and nonsense: I actually have things to contribute to [community profile] common_nature now.

Glad to have you dropping by!

Specifically if I'm interested in maritime business in its various forms?

There's two of them right now:

[community profile] ottawa_gatineau, which is devoted to discussing stuff going on in the Ottawa-Gatineau region of Canada, including its core cities.

[community profile] viarail_fandom, for talking about passenger rail service across Canada in all its forms, regardless of its name.

There is a Vertigo-branded science-fiction comic book currently published by DC Comics, named for this town in Alberta. I have discussed this series here before. And that town is, so far as I can tell, the end goal of the quest of its protagonists, going by the map updated in each issue.

For some reason, I find this coincidence disturbing.

Thanks to [personal profile] notasupervillain for adding me to their own reading list here...

...my internet service provider's doing something to make accessing the Net more affordable. They're working in tandem with not only OCH but ACORN Canada as well to make this happen. I'm not currently a beneficiary of this, but it seems like a good idea to get the word out by as many routes as possible to those who might be.

...for Dreamwidth users in the Ottawa-Gatineau region.

Naturally, it's called [community profile] ottawa_gatineau

D'you suppose we could get at least twenty people interested in a Canadian Music community?

Neil Young, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Kashtin, Tanya Tagaq, Metric, Bruce Cockburn, New Pornographers, Arcade Fire, Rush, Stars, Coeur de Pirate, the list goes on...

Putting the question out there.

Any communities here on Dreamwidth you'd care to recommend to me?

Astronomy

Noticed the existence of this community [community profile] astronomy, which seems to have lain fallow for about 4 years. Those of us with a shared interest in such things might want to kick the tires, so to speak, and find out which other Dreamwidth users might be interested in reviving the conversations...?

Some of you regular readers already know of my work with Spacing Ottawa documenting the backstories of the street names of Ottawa. CBC's got an installment of Cross-Country Checkup on Radio One this upcoming Sunday that we will all want to listen to.

Are there any such groups hereabouts?

Question: given the recent move of the Livejournal servers to Moscow, shall I shut down the Ottawa Fandom Community on LJ? Or try to migrate it to Dreamwidth?

Alternatively: There's some additional activity there, but the last time anyone other than me posted there was 2012. So, if anyone who's planning to hold onto their LJ account wants to keep it going, I'll transfer ownership.

Maybe [personal profile] ed_rex?
