Seemed like a lot of people were doing exactly what the title said...
( Specifics and other thoughts after the cut )
The old day job called. They want me back first thing.
Tomorrow morning.
I can't afford to say "no", of course.
So, I've had to cancel my attendance of that SHIELD TV party tonight. I'll have to watch at home.
But if you can go and want to watch the season kickoff with friends of like mind? You should.
More on other stuff later.

SHIELD at San Diego 2014
Jul. 27th, 2014 04:52 pmSo. The Marvel comics are getting caught up with the TV operation. After a fashion.
Looks like at least Fitz-616 will be getting his brave little monkey! Fitz-199999 will be eating his heart out if he ever finds out. ;-)

So, someone came up with an idea for a SHIELD-themed hockey jersey. They're not going to try selling it because of legal considerations, but aside from the comment I posted on that page...I have no complaints about the design. ;-)
One thing that it leaves me thinking about: house leagues. My Dad's old office had a "house" league for curling enthusiasts (and both my parents curled, FYI). Given the size of SHIELD as oft-depicted in the comics, I find it easy to imagine there being enough hockey fans in SHIELD to be able to put together a "house" league for that sport. (And curling, too, now that I think about it!)
The logistics of organizing games are...entertainingly problematic, shall we say?

Helicarrier Thoughts, Continued
Jun. 1st, 2014 08:33 pmSo I've been fiddling in Adobe Illustrator tonight. Half-tempted to revert back to CorelDRAW instead for this sort of thing, but never mind that for the moment.
This afternoon and evening, I spent part of the time fiddling with that Helicarrier tech art from the Marvel Universe Handbook from 1983. The working assumption being, if its length was about the same as a Nimitz-class CVN, what should its internal structures be expected to look like?
( Screengrabs after the cut! )

Some quick thoughts early in the morning...

More as it comes to mind.
Whether that mind is mine or one or more of yours...?

Thoughts on the Winter Soldier - SPOILERS
Apr. 14th, 2014 08:58 pmOkay...this is going to be a bit of a ramble.
( Spoilers after the cut )
I'm probably forgetting and ignoring other issues of interest, aren't I?

"End of the Beginning"
Apr. 2nd, 2014 08:49 pmOkay, this was a good installment, with a nice cliffhanger to leave us on...but I'm getting word via TrekBBS that suggests to me that CTV might have left something that we were supposed to see towards the end off the online-viewable edition.
They're not making that end-teaser material "BellMedia-subscribers only", are they?
Hoping I'm wrong to be paranoid here.

To further enhance the sense of scale re: Nimitz-class aircraft carriers vs. the SHIELD Helicarrier class depicted in the Marvel Universe Handbook by Eliot R. Brown. Assumes that the length of both vessel classes are equivalent. Graphic cross-section of Nimitz-class CVN is derived from the Hampton Roads Daily Press web feature on the USS George W.H. Bush.

A question of cruelty to characters
Feb. 16th, 2014 09:48 pmIs it wrong that, when I learned that Fitz' full first name is "Leopold", I immediately leaped to thinking of the orchestra conductor that Bugs Bunny impersonated in order to effect Giovanni Jones' doom in "Long-Haired Hare"?
(For some reason, I mixed up the doomed Mr. Jones with the conductor at first.)

SHIELD vehicle on EBay...for real!
Nov. 30th, 2013 02:43 pmSo I'm hearing via this source:

Update: I checked the eBay page for the car. It's already found a buyer. Sorry! :-(

Tech Art Addiction: Another Installment
Nov. 4th, 2013 05:49 pmTwo things I came across recently:
1. A little thing on the Robot 6 blog on comicbookresources.com about architectural drawings tied to the series Locke and Key. The series isn't exactly my cuppa, but I know some of you out there have a love for it. So.
2. I'd heard that a Haynes-issue book on the Death Star and related space hardware from Star Wars was in the works for a couple of months. It's on my own "want list". Spotted it recently at a couple of local booksellers. If you want a sense of why I'd like to have it in my genre tech art reading collection, here you go, courtesy of io9.com.
3. One more thing I'd like to see done?
A SHIELD Agents' Orientation Manual. Preferred candidates to contribute material, be it text or artwork to include the following:
Complete with a history of known Helicarrier classes to date, details of the old SHIELD NYC HQ bases(the first one under the barber shop, and the skyscraper that formed one of the key venues of Nick Fury vs. SHIELD), and an assortment of the other gadgetry in the arsenal. And if they want to throw in the Urbis Immortalis under Rome as designed by Dustin Weaver, go for it.
Just saying.

...as I just saw the Winter Soldier trailer.
My compliments to the responsible parties.
So...did those boats get names to go with their pennant numbers?

Spotted this over at Screenrant today.
Which now has me somewhat more curious than I already was as of this morning.
Personally, I stick with the assumption that SHIELD already has a few metric tonnes of stuff going on off-camera between episodes and movies. What that stuff is might be worth a couple of movies off to one side. Coulson's team isn't the only thing in progress. It can't be.
Now back to finding that missing paperwork of mine...
