Job Search: Weird Workopolis Tips

Workopolis is one of the job-search engines that started up here in Canada, and I maintain subscriptions to several alerts from that service by informed choice. Weirdness from them this past couple of weeks is as follows: I keep getting notes about jobs at Cargill out in Saskatchewan. I don't recall signing up for those alerts!

Fonts: Comicrazy Adds Hebrew Support

Okay, Comicraft is holding a 30th Anniversary promotion right now. They're the first big comic book design-oriented font design house in the world that I know of, started by Richard Starkings and John Roshell. They decided to kick off with thirty days of releasing remasters of their offerings, starting with their first font family, Comicrazy.

They're already set up for most European languages using Latin script, and back in 2015 added Cyrillic support. This year, they've added support for Vietnamese adaptations of Latin, as well as Hebrew script, which marks a first for that font family.

If you already own a license for Comicrazy, you'll get the update as part of your long-term support arrangements. Just check your "My Account - Order History" files if you bought a license after 2010.

(I bought a license back around 2015, hence my downloading.)

If you haven't got Comicrazy yet, my advice would be to wait for Comicraft's annual New Year Font Sale. I expect every family in the catalogue to be on offer during that sale at US$20.22 per next New Year's. Unless you've suddenly hit it big in the local lottery, or are otherwise highly fortunate, in which case, I would recommend you splurge now.

Graphic Design: Pantone Peril?

What the heck's going on with Pantone and Adobe right now?

Shouldn't colour standards be open-source stuff anyway these days?

Beginning September 2022

Another job applied for, some more learning about how to argue for voting during an election done, and next year's air filters for the CPAP machine bought as well. Among other adulting done today, that is.

And that's how September 2022 started for me.

Clip Studio Paint: What Is Celsys Thinking?

I have to wonder, given this context re: Clip Studio Paint...

https://www.creativebloq.com/news/clip-studio-paint-subscription

Yes, Krita exists as an option and so does Affinity Photo...but I bought CSP for specific reasons of comics design suitability. So did many others.

Job Search: CRA Blockage, Part II

An update: I can look at the listings from "outside". But if I try to log into my job-seeker's account, the login attempt doesn't work.

That's a problem.

Meanwhile, I'm listening to The Current on CBC Radio, and they're discussing the risks faced by homeless people. The return to this ongoing discussion were prompted by yesterday's murders in Langley, BC.

Job Search: CRA Blockage

Yes, I maintain a job-seeker's account with the federal tax authorities. You try to find work in Ottawa-Gatineau without resorting to the various federal departments and agencies and see how far you can get, okay?

Anyway, I've been trying and failing to log in since Thursday. Not sure what's going on. I've left notes with several people. Moving on to continue the job search through other resources while I wait for replies.

Memory Books and RAM

I started fiddling with that memory book project in Affinity Publisher today. More and more, I'm wishing that this machine I'm building it with had more RAM installed. I've been advised that I should have pulled out the hard drive, replaced it with an SSD, and put whatever files would not be actual programs onto an external hard drive instead. Well, if I had a steadier income, I'd have considered that.

On an unrelated note, where my left earlobe attaches to my skull...occasionally feels blocked or itchy, or whatever form of irritation seems guaranteed to keep me from thinking clearly about whatever else should be occupying my brain.

May Day 2022

So I've spent the day in family conference - that gets discussed in "access list" entries - as well as a ByMUG meeting, some house chores, Clip Studio Paint practice, culling basement and e-mail clutter, and other stuff.

Notes While I Job-Search - 1 April 2022

1. Cities have a positive value. We ignore and defy this truth at our peril.

http://spacing.ca/national/2022/04/01/why-we-must-stop-the-urbicide-the-killing-of-cities/

2. The Indigenous, Métis and Inuit nations sent delegations to the Vatican regarding the crimes of the Residential Schools. They got a response they hoped for, but didn't quite anticipate coming so quickly or so clearly. More work to be done in the months ahead, yes...

Keeping Busy On Another Sunday

Practicing with the Cintiq and Clip Studio Paint and listening to Cross Country Checkup on CBC Radio.

Two things I am reminded of:

1. I have to got to learn to loosen up in my illustration process.

2. I am absolutely okay with the Confidence and Supply agreement between the federal Liberals and NDP right now. There's things I want to add to their to-do list (like eye care), but this was a possibility I was okay with when I cast my vote.
