iTunes rotation has arrived at "Unwell" by Matchbox Twenty.

Perfect timing.

Apologies to Matthew Good.

I can't imagine it's good to be him today watching the news from the west coast of Turtle Island. Not having the lyrics of "Last Parade" from the album Vancouver thrown in his face by the news headlines like this.

That smoke will be over Ottawa tomorrow night probably...?

Two things in mind today:

Leslie Fish's song "Hope Eyrie", whatever I think of the author's thinking in more recent times. Because of the anniversary of the landing of that first Eagle on the Mare Tranquilitatus, Luna.

And Winston Churchill's "Finest Hour" speech has its influences today for different reasons.

For the rest of this morning, I'll be off to the City Archives Building at Tallwood and Woodroffe to partake of the latest edition of the Mammoth Book Sale.

There's this band, the New Pornographers. You might have heard of them. They put out an album in 2007, Challengers. The title song, as you'll figure out from the lyrics, is a nod to the DC characters of the same ilk. No idea which incarnation(s) of the team are favoured by which musicians in the band, mind you.

I'm starting to tie two other songs on that album in my mind to specific series or characters: "Deus Ex Machina" to Doctor Who, "Adventures in Solitude" to Captain America. Something in the lyrics of each song fits each series.

I doubt that mental association was intended by the band at the time, but it works for me.

And you?

You know that fire that [livejournal.com profile] budgie_uk lit under me by telling me about Mitch Benn's pro-BBC music?

Finally decided not to wait for any professional musician and started trying to find stuff in CBC history I can string together into verse.

This could take a while. Just so you know.

Something's been bugging me about a particular TV commercial lately. From the Schnieder Foods operation, to be precise. I can't remember the exact product at the moment, which annoys me for a different reason than the one I'm posting about.

Because it uses Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth" as its background music, you see.

So bloody wrong on so many levels.
