As for Michelle Rempel's reaction, I speak as a prairie-born nerd who remembers his roots enough to suggest that she back off on that "whip up the envy and rage" tack she's taking.

(Yeah, we can argue over the actual content of the speech.)

Two things in mind today:

Leslie Fish's song "Hope Eyrie", whatever I think of the author's thinking in more recent times. Because of the anniversary of the landing of that first Eagle on the Mare Tranquilitatus, Luna.

And Winston Churchill's "Finest Hour" speech has its influences today for different reasons.

For the rest of this morning, I'll be off to the City Archives Building at Tallwood and Woodroffe to partake of the latest edition of the Mammoth Book Sale.

Watching the verbal sparring over the changes to Unemployment Insurance between these two on CBC Newsworld. Finley is...not entirely persuasive, in my POV.

Like Evan Solomon acknowledged at Carleton U last night during the Orwell discussion, I too have read "Politics and the English Language". Which might be more important to any discussion of Orwell's work than the diversions into "Newspeak" in 1984.
